Vacationing American seniors fight off muggers, killing one

ASSOCIATED PRESS and REUTERS

February 23, 2007

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – A tour group of American senior citizens fought off muggers in Costa Rica, killing one of the assailants, police said.

The tourists' bus was held up by three men armed with a gun and knife in the coastal town of Limon after the group arrived on a cruise ship Wednesday, said Limon police chief Luis Hernández.

He said a retired U.S. Marine, who officials estimated was in his 70s, put one of the attackers – age 20 – in a headlock and apparently broke his neck. The other assailants fled and the tourists drove the injured man to the Red Cross, where he was declared dead.

Authorities said the tourists had a right to defend themselves and filed no charges against them. They left on their cruise ship after the incident.

An appearance in family court sought by Kevin Federline amid a child custody dispute with Britney Spears was canceled yesterday as reports surfaced that the pop star was back in rehab.

Spears returned to the Promises Malibu Treatment Center late Wednesday, according to reports from TMZ.com, “The Insider” and “Extra.” Her mother, Lynne Spears, drove her daughter to the center, “Extra” and “The Insider” said.

Spears and Federline reportedly agreed Wednesday night that he would keep their two young children while Spears was in rehabilitation, a program that takes between 30 and 45 days.

The events came amid increasingly bizarre behavior by Spears, which culminated with the pop star reportedly checking into and out of two rehab centers in a week and shaving her head.

Spears previously left the Promises center Wednesday, according to “The Insider,” less than a day after arriving. The center specializes in treating drug and alcohol abuse.

Britney bails on rehab

February 22, 2007

Britney Spears left a live-in rehabilitation facility in Malibu early yesterday, less than a day after checking in, according to several reports.

It was the second time in a week that Spears entered a rehab facility and checked out before her first day was finished.

The television news magazine “The Insider” initially reported that Spears called a car service, walked out of the Promises Malibu Treatment Center and left the facility early in the morning.

Later, the TV show “Extra” and the celebrity Web site TMZ.com said the 25-year-old pop star had left the center far short of the usual 45-day stay. TMZ said she couldn't handle rehab and went home.

Entertainment TV shows and Web sites reported Friday that Spears had gone in and out of rehab that week.

Spears had a meltdown weekend that included shaving her head, tattooing her wrist and clubbing with friends. On Friday night, she sheared off her hair at a salon. Spears was later seen wearing an inexpensive blond wig.

Since filing for divorce from Kevin Federline in November, Spears has been photographed pantyless, wearing skimpy outfits and partying heavily.

...Here, it was like spring yesterday and back to snowstorms today.

I was in Copenhagen for the past couple of days and the airport almost ground to a halt after what seemed like a couple of centimetres of snow. Among other things their tractors have sensors which don't work in snow! I have always thought that England was Europe's specialist in "unexpected snowfall in winter" or "the wrong kind of snow" [that second a famous lame excuse for train delays from British Rail] but it seems that Denmark will not be left behind!

Excellent service from the SAS staff at the airport, incidentally.

Good you were treated good in Kastrup.

Yes the first snowfall always comes as a huge surprise for the train company DSB also.

But weird, the country has been divided in halfs, one with lots of snow and the other, my part, where it only rains.

... the temperature in Võru was -25ºC for 3 days running...

... where Elina comes from... but when you consider that each word in Estonian has the stress on the first syllable of each word (which gives it and other Finno-Ugric languages) its esoteric quality (and when they then speak English, this is carried over, making the whole pronunciation - to my mind - immensely attractive!)

From what I remember of various photos of Elina we have seen, I imagine any language would sound attractive.

SOURCE: FIGHT WITH K-FED CAUSED BRITNEY TO SHAVE
A screaming match with Kevin Federline left Britney Spears reeling – and, after a public breakdown, running for rehab, sources told The New York Daily News yesterday.
“Britney Spears has voluntarily checked herself into an undisclosed rehab facility today,” her manager, Larry Rudolph, said in a statement. “We ask that the media respect her privacy as well as those of her family and friends at this time.”
Photos confirm Spears has checked into the posh Malibu celebrity haven Promises. She was spotted strolling the lush grounds yesterday in a hot-pink tank top and pants that appeared to still have the sizing sticker attached.
Rudolph said yesterday that the decision for treatment was Spears'. In a call to E! News' Ryan Seacrest, Rudolph said he had just spoken to Spears and that she told him all she wants is time to rest, to get better and focus on her recovery.
According to OK! magazine, a blowout with Federline sent Spears reeling.
“They had a huge argument,” a source told the magazine. “Kevin threatened Britney that he was going to have people test her hair to find out exactly what she's been up to. She was so scared. That was what made her have her head shaved.”

Rumor has it that his lawyer asked the Court for a hair sample to show past drug use for the Divorce Case. She shaved her head thinking it would save her and doing it in public was a "I'll show you who can do what to whom" display.
