Greetings to Pappa, Eric, and the group. I was just curious, and I know everyone has been extremely busy, but is there any chance at all to get any kind of an updated list of the hardware needs for the project? Something more complete instead of trying to sort through all the messages not only here but other threads as well. I'm sure it would be very much appriciated. Thanks. Jeremy |

Pappa - I have > 40 Seagate SCSI (68 & 80 Pin) HDDs from 23 - 181 GB Double Height Server drives most "Pulls" but some new. I've swiched over my 16 +/-SETI machines to SATA and these are just sitting already properly packed in boxes in foam with 5 - 10 drives per box - Controller cards already sold off. Additionally, two small servers (1 x dual Core 2 Xeons & 1 x dual P-III Zeons) and one reserve workstation (a P4 PD 945 Dual Core). Plus, 8 x 256MB FB-ECC DDR RAM and lots of 478 P$ Mobos w/ 1.6 - 2.8 Mhz 478s. Mods have my e-mail. |

Ken et al I know Eric was working on a Frankenstien machine and still has a need for the Seagate Fiber Channel Drives ST173404FC. As was mentioned there has been and update to the Donate Hardware Page As usual, if you want to email me the details I will forward that to Eric... that gives specifics then he can contact you directly. As it is Friday I would not expect a response before Monday. al.setiboinc (at) gmail.com Pappa - I have > 40 Seagate SCSI (68 & 80 Pin) HDDs from 23 - 181 GB Double Height Server drives most "Pulls" but some new. This is very tough, I have spent a lot of years working to help find ET, helping other Seti Users, Seti Beta and work to get Seti past Donations I Donations II, Hardware Donations I, Hardware Donations II and other issues... The last two years have been very intense in things that are not common knowledge. I am human, I have worked more hours than most would every know. Seti is not Set It and Forget It! Sometimes when I see things that are what I feel are wrong, I say things. Some of those things are not what Seti wants but are my own personal feelings! My opinions are mine, they are not Seti's but they do reflect on Seti. In that respect I am wrong, it has never been my intention do to things that are negative to Seti. At times it becomes very hard to find something positive when what "we" all see is an outage... I also know that others keep helping new users and have managed to keep going. Thank You! We are all human and have good days and bad days... For those that I may have wronged, I apologize... It then becomes for everyone to decide, are we here to find ET or fight... I truly hope the choice is to to Find ET! Seti Needs Funding Help, that needs to be considered! It may be that each and everyone one of you, needs to look at what you can do to help Seti survive... I know that many who did not want their names disclosed made Bruno happen (that group came up with over $8000)! I know that many would give what they could but what could but, could not help (hardware)... Thank You for the Offer! It was tough to explain why it could not help... I know that it was meant from Concern and the Heart! I would also ask Team Captains to ask Eric what can be done! The larger the group that is working on keeping Seti Alive the better... No, it should not be me or Fuzzy or a small silent group... It should be EVERYONE! You make Seti not me me or a small group.... I would hope that we never see "Personal Interests" here but a concern to Find ET! So at this point, I ask that a Moderator unsticky this Forum Thread (on the first of June 2007)... As it appears that that I have wronged a number of people. I would prefer to quit rather than damage Seti! So, who will step up to carry the torch to Help Seti Survive? This becomes your chance to Shine! Regrads Pappa Please consider a Donation to the Seti Project. |

Pappa, I am sorry to see you leave from doing this. I don't think anyone can take your place in this position. You have earned a great amount of respect not only from crunchers but from Eric and the staff at UCB. I hope you don't leave, but if you do, I wsh you well, and thank you for doing what you did for the project. Jeremy |

... As it appears that that I have wronged a number of people. No, it's just that not all people will get on with everyone else. Not only can't you please everyone all of the time, there are some people you will never be able to please at any time; no matter what you do. Such is life. Grant Darwin NT |

Not only can't you please everyone all of the time, there are some people you will never be able to please at any time; no matter what you do. I'll second your comment. And such are some people... And considering the very large number of anonymous participants here, I'm amazed that we don't get more random "venting", or even just outright vandalism. And there's always a few attention seekers whom get very jealous that they might not be able to immediately jump into their centre of attention... This thread has got a little long and is about due for a revamp. Hope to see the new Pappa version soon! ;-) Hopefully, s@h can be a good education as well as a lot of fun whilst doing Real Science. Pappa.... Don't overreact to the few that are miffed because you perhaps didn't handle everything THEIR way and expressed their dissatisfaction at such. Consider instead all of the good you have done for the project, the science, and the majority of other users who have appreciated your many efforts. We need someone who will be the middleman, helping to relay communications, and putting the correct people in contact with those who can use the help offered. Please reconsider staying. Your help has not gone unnoticed. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Pappa.... And a big thank you for keeping those "miffed" people from directly "miffing" at the s@h staff. I'd rather that the Science continues rather than a few miffers creating a miffing quagmire, whether or not howsoever intended in whatever way. Those whom actually genuinely wish to usefully help will be quietly patient to help in whatever way is best. (And no, I don't know any details but I can guess from some of the "generous offerings" I've seen for the good cause of a school which are rather less than 'useful'. Often, it's all misintentions from not understanding. Sometimes, it can be just 'laziness'. Enough speculation...) Pappa, No one can please all of the people all of the time. I was a Superior Court Judge for a while, and I remember one quote from one of the senior Judges when I was taking office. He said that he knew when he made a good decision when both parties felt that they lost. I have always tried my best in every situtation to make sure that everyone wins. Most of the time I am successful, but not always. I tend to work on large projects that directly impact hundreds of people at a time. I remember one project where the first public hearing had over 200 angry people opposing me. By the final public hearing the numbers had reversed. Most of the 200 were singing praises for my project. But still had about 5 that opposed it. I have found that most people who oppose my projects do so from ignorance. Some times intentional ignorance. They don't want to hear the truth. Your work here has been invaluable. I have read most of the posts here for the last year or so, and find the same thing. People expect too much from an non-profit effort. Most of the negative posts come from a lack of understanding. People complain out of ignorance. I like you feel that Seti is of benifit to mankind, it is a nobel effort. If at all possible I implore you to continue your efforts to keep the project on it's feet. Let not the nay sayers deter you. Please stay. But if you must leave, then thank you for all that you have done. |

Carlos et al Thank You, All I am still here and will be for the next round of funding/donation issues. Many people have stepped in to Help, with the particular type of hardware issues it becomes tougher. Many of the people that have helped, desired that their names to not be published. So on behalf of "all those Silent Seti Users." Thank You! All that said, I know that Fiberchannel drives, and Big Sata drives are still outstanding, then some other server issues for Hardware. At this point, it would probably be better that this thread be allowed to join its predecessor. As I can get more complete information about the hardware issues will start a new thread. Regards to You All Pappa Pappa, Please consider a Donation to the Seti Project. |

People complain out of ignorance. Why wasn't I made aware of this? Heads must roll! ...yet another time to blame Misfit...*chortle* Pappa, as with all such things, the nay-sayers are usually much more vocal than the supporters. Also, at least for me, negative comments stick in your mind longer than positive ones. Don't let it get to you, your contribution to the project has been very helpful, and try to remember all the good stuff too :o) Regards, Simon. Donate to SETI@Home via PayPal!
