Hey there,
Joined Team Canada, but I see that the founder is inactive as is the website. Just wondering if anyone is keeping the community alive or are just signing on for national pride?

Thanks for the quick reply Michael, but this brings up another question.......what happens when I "initiate transfer"? Does this mean I take control of the team?? I'm not exactly a computer guru like a lot of you. (this is my first computer in 6 or 7 years!) Therefore not in the best position to "rally the troops". I think that Canadian super group RUSH said it the best "Whoa! Whoa! You can be the captain and I will draw the charts. Sailing into destiny. Closer to the heart!"

Sorry for being so long winded......but I AM of Italian descent! Nyuk Nyuk

An email gets sent to the current team founder and if it's not replied to after a certain amount of time (8 weeks?) then the foundership (is that a word?) gets transfered to you.

Question: Why not just find an active team to join?

Okay...here comes the long wind again..(inhales deep)..First off, thanks for clearing that up Yer Highness (Nyuck Nyuck), I really do appreciate the info. In response to your question...Team Canada is active (21st on the board...just got overtaken by team Hungary!! GASP!!) but us canadians can be a little on the reserved side (not me apparently) so the fact that the foundership (not sure if it's a word but I like it)is currently inactive doesn't mean that it's vacant. Does that make sense in a confusing way? So I wouldn't want to usurp (there's a good word) the lead role. And, yeah, there is the national/team pride thing. As for joining another team, I'm not very "Synergistic" (how's that for a word?) and I rarely if ever say "Ni".

Wow! Just read that and it really is long winded and convuluted!!

I totally respect the work that is being done and am trying to do my part so I hope that everyone can appreciate the spirit of this thread and post. (keeping it light and frothy you could say)

thanks again

I'm Canadian too Pawly. And we have a Hungarian on our team. And we usually say "it". ;-)

I believe the main purpose of having that "initiate transfer" link is for when a team's founder has gone absentee and the members wish to make changes. Don't know if anyone has ever used it, although there were cases in Classic SETI where the founder disappeared and that would have carried over to BOINC.

I believe the " initiate transfer " works if it's not replied to within 60 days.

Wow, I'm kinda disapointed. WIth 900+ members you'd think someone from the team would speak up. (besides me...obviously) Although it is hockey season.....and alot of tv shows are restarting this week. We'll give it a few more days.

Well, I just got my new company-leased PC and figured out how to get seti on my new machine. So every 3 years the lease runs out and that's when I load up the latest version. I didn't know about teams and all.

But Pawley, I like your enthusiasm and as soon as I figure out how to join up, I'll join up with Team Canada. While I'm big on the national pride thing, I'm not much of a hockey player though I have played center (really just stood at center ice while people went whipping past with the puck and occasionally getting knocked down) and I remember seeing Henderson score that winning goal (though actually that was because he replayed it enough times when he was a motivational speaker at one of my company's sales meetings).

Anyhow, I'm not much of an online blog or chat person and I don't know how to post pictures, but once I get signed up I'll check in from time to time.

Hey that sounds great tahansen, I'm not actually trying to recruit, just see where the team is. As I said before I don't really think I'm the guy to "steer the ship" but recruitment officer has a nice ring to it!

Incidentally, I'm actually named after Paul Henderson. My Brother was a huge fan and he convinced Mom and Dad.

Well that sounds great. A fine name, Paul - One of my boys is Paul too. As I said I got to meet Henderson when we had a couple of regional sales meetings at TO and Calgary. I was presenting so had to go to both. I got Paul to sign my company jersy. Then we had the Eastern meeting in Monteal, and who was the speaker at dinner but Jean Beliveau. A fine person, and at the time was an exec with the Canadians. They gave out Canadiens baseball hats, and I got him to sign one.

The team building thing we did after dinner was play hockey on those games they have at the malls. The company had brought in 3 of those things, and Paul and Jean played too. The brewskis were flowing and we played way into the night. I can say I played with Beliveau in Montreal, and against Henderson in Calgary.

Anyhow, I kind of got going. You may have seen these, but just in case here are a couple of web sites I found about Team Canada. Don't know if this is the site your looking for but some interesting stats....

Wow! You actually got to pal around and quaff pints with a couple of Canadian icons. There are people who would give thier left ..... for a chance like that. (My brother included!) I guess that guest speakers like that really give incentive to attendees not to skip out early and hit the bars.

Yep, we all were quite impressed, not just that they were there to speak, but double that those guys stayed around after and played the table hockey and had a few. There were about 30 of us at each city so small enough to actually talk to them a bit. After a tough week it was a great lift. Even now a great memory.

So it seems to joing a team the founder gets my email. Since it's my company email I guess I'll have to pass on the team thing. Not sure I can change the email on the account.
