I added 512 more memory, now have 1 gig. (max for this laptop)

Should I expect see a gain in performance on wu's / processing time ?

If someone could take a look at my settings, give advise on the best settings ie: swap space, memory usage ...

Thanks in advance.

You may see a gain, it mostly depends on what else you use the host for though.

We can not see your preferences unless you post them for us. My general advice for maximum queue size is 40% of the shortest deadline divided by the number of projects, if you only run SETI that means less than 2 days. However there are other considerations at times, also once 5.8.x is released larger queues should cause less problems.

Depends. If you just double your memory but you had had enough to begin with (for Seti and all other functions of the computer) you might not see any improvement. If you had had just one stick but now have two (that can take advantage of "dual-channel memory") you may see a measurable improvement. If your new memory is faster, you might see an improvement - but the strength of a chain is only that of its weakest link.

The biggest thing you could do right now to increase crunching performance is to start using the Chicken Soup crunching application for your specific CPU.

Better than most memory upgrades, surely!

I looked at that site, which of the following would I pick ?

Downloads

Linux optimized Seti@Home apps - Any released apps will be offered for download here.

Seti@Home & BOINC modified source code - You can always find the most recent versions of my source tarballs here - they are based on Eric Korpela's archives, which you can find in the Links section.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Test and Benchmark Tools - In this section you can find the test WUs and scripts that have been used to create the result comparison tables.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Windows SETI@Home apps - MMX/SSE/SSE2/SSE3 optimized executables. They are based on Eric Korpela's source tarball (you can find it in the Links section). The application version is 5.15.
The current code revision is 2.0.

Code Revision 1.3 (old) - Previously released apps.

Code Revision 2.0 (current) - Version: 2.0 'Ni!' Anything with Intel in its name will ONLY run on Intel chips!

Code Revision 2.0 (current) with graphics - Version 2.0 'Ni!' Anything with Intel in its name will ONLY run on Intel chips!
Eye candy or raw crunching speed - you choose.

For windows, right? Select "Code Revision 2.0 (current)". The graphics just slow your crunching. Then download an run the Automatic Installer. Run it on at least medium length, and then when it is done, click the button to automatically install the best one for you machine.

Your XP2200 Mobile has SSE instructions.....

Download the Optimized application from Here and save it. Now unzip the file you just downloaded and you will see a folder named KWSN Ni! 2.0B SSE. Open that and you will see a folder that says Files to Install. Open that one and copy the files.

Shut Down Boinc.....Open your Boinc folder...open the Projects folder...open the setiathome.berkeley.edu folder and paste the files you copied.

Close out and restart Boinc. It will run benchmarks and then start crunching with the Chicken Soup SSE Rev. 2 crunching application.

Gee, thanks

It's true and that is the point.

If you want SETI to be more productive, you will want to do two things. One, get CPU with more cache. Two, run optimized version of the application.
