All versions are supposed to treat multiple logical cores. The home versions (except the extreme version) support 1 physical package. The business versions and the extreme version support 2 physical packages. This is supposed to mean that a home edition will support a core 2 quad (8? logical CPUs 4 real and 4 HT?). BOINC WIKI |

O.k., either I am blind or just missing something here. I have been to Microsoft's website and tried checking to see which version of the new Vista OS is going to support not only mulitple logical cores (Such as the two logical cores in a Core 2 Duo), or the actual physical cores (Such as two Core 2 Duos). I know that Windows Xp Pro (32 bit) will handle up to 4 logical cores and/or 2 physical cores...but the Vista page doesn't explain which I should get. I am currently running a Core 2 Duo 6700 (1 physical/2 logical) and I am planning sometime in the near future to go with a Core 2 Extream (1 physical/4 logical). The versions of Vista that I am aware of are Vista Basic Home, Vista Premium Home, Vista Business, and Vista Ultimate. Which one should I get with my certificate since I already have a Core 2 Duo and possibly will purchase the Core 2 Extream or a Dual Board Core 2 Extream? |
