Message 497376 - Posted: 4 Jan 2007, 17:30:43 UTC - in response to Message 497370.

It seems that if there is a God, he has a nasty sense of humor. That or he is just very bored.

When God made man, SHE was only joking... :-)))

Yea, and the she made women to think they were god - it's only a joke! ha ha

We've got 2 female mods now, skating ice thin on.

They may be female, and they may be mods, but in either case they have to learn to skate as much as anyone, or they will fall over as much as anyone.

Ice doesn't get thin in an ice rink, Ever.

Very nice Fuzzy. I'll come and do a twirl with you sometime.

:-D

That is so nice. I think I'm going to have to ask you to find a special version of that for the 18th. If you would be so kind :)

Your birthday?

yep :)

Thats good to know...
I was just posting my feelings on the matter...
Everyone is intitled to their opinion...
But the opinions that get posted have to be respectful to other members...
People will always have a difference of opinion, that is what makes for good conversation...
Like I said before, I don't know what happened, and I don't really want to know...
What I do know is that Richard has made a lot of posts here, and I would hate to see a member that contributes to the conversation as much as he does disappear over something...
After all, the title of the thread is "POST a COMMENT"...
I read the thread and posted what I thought about it...
I am not out to point fingers or judge, I am just here for the conversation...
Scott Shaver...
P.S. I checked out your site Richard... Excellent eye...

Hi Scott.
Stick with the likes of Richard ... you will be amused.
I cannot say anything for the others here ...
(unless, that is, you wanna mess with a set of control freaks)

He's cute, isn't he? I thought of you immediately when I saw him, so he's yours. You can save him and upload him to your photobucket and use him in your posts. And if you use tinyurl's then maybe you can have him in your sig?

Ice cet me up with a sig made through TinyUrl a while ago. I tried it myself the other day and for some odd reason, it just doesn't seem to want to work for me. :-(

I will save that smiley and throw it in there every once in a while though....lol

Yes, but I can see that you have the full url's for all links, so if you make them all as tinyurl's, you might be able to have them all?

The original tinyurl's I made for you should work Knightmare. If they don't 'seem' to work it could be because Mundayweb server is down again?

Feedback about Censorship and Message Board Organization

Subject: Feedback about Censorship and Message Board Organization Message 1 of 1
Posted by SETI@home Administration on Oct 13, 2002 at 23:04

QUOTE :
Ace_quaker-

Your suggestions cover two large issues:
(1) censorship on the message boards
(2) improving the organization of the message boards

(1) Censorship:

As I've said in previous threads, the message boards are officially
UNMODERATED, and the SETI@home community is asked to exercise responsibility
and tolerance when reading and posting messages. In such a large forum, we do
a somewhat decent job of weeding out riff-raff and off-topic posts simply by
virtue of the fact that we only allow registered SETI@home users to post.
Obviously, this isn't a perfect system, but no system is perfect, and we
preferred to err on the side of openness rather than restrictiveness. I do try
to remove posts that are clearly hateful or offensive, although many get by my
radar. The recommend/reject idea is interesting, but we've found through the
user profile feature that too many people randomly recommend or reject
profiles--to much noise for us to use that system effectively. (We do use it,
but personally I don't think it buys us much, due to so much volume and noise.)

(2) Organization:

Great ideas about organization regarding the message boards. However, we have
trouble effectively defining topics--some topics disappear, others melt
together as time goes by, etc. Furthermore (and perhaps more importantly),
such organization still doesn't prevent people from posting in the wrong
places, re-posting old issues, etc. We try to maintain a long FAQ that answers
many questions, but those questions still get posted on the boards. I do
appreciate your organizational ideas, and I'm happy to implement something,
but I really want to find something that makes sense, is easy to implement,
won't become outdated or errant over time, and stands a good chance of
significantly reducing a problem without causing others. If as a community we
can agree on some specific modifications, let's do it.

So, if any of you have feedback about our censorship policy or suggestions
about organization, I"m certainly all ears!

Best wishes,

SAH Administration

< Time has come again . . .

"Understanding the ETI Messages and Replying Appropriately"

Draft Declaration of Principles Concerning Sending Communications with Extraterrestrial Intelligence

1.International consultations should be initiated to consider the question of sending
communications to extraterrestrial civilizations.

2.Consultations on whether a message should be sent, and its content, should take
place within the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space of the United
Nations and within other governmental and non-governmental organizations, and
should accommodate participation by qualified, interested groups that can
contribute constructively to these consultations.

3.These consultations should be open to participation by all interested States and
should be intended to lead to recommendations reflecting a consensus.

4.The United Nations General Assembly should consider making the decision on
whether or not to send a message to extraterrestrial intelligence, and on what the
content of that message should be, based on recommendations from the
Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and from governmental and
non-governmental organizations.

5.If a decision is made to send a message to extraterrestrial intelligence, it should
be sent on behalf of all Humankind, rather than from individual States.

6.The content of such a message should reflect a careful concern for the broad
interests and wellbeing of Humanity, and should be made available to the public
in advance of transmission.

7.As the sending of a communication to extraterrestrial intelligence could lead to
an exchange of communications separated by many years, consideration should
be given to a long-term institutional framework for such communications.

8.No communication to extraterrestrial intelligence should be sent by any State
until appropriate international consultations have taken place. States should not
cooperate with attempts to communicate with extraterrestrial intelligence that
do not conform to the principles of this Declaration.

9.In their deliberations on these questions, States participating in this Declaration
and United Nations bodies should draw on the expertise of scientists, scholars,
and other persons with relevant knowledge.

? not interested in Hodowanec's GWD Circuits / notes . . .

figured you'd all be delighted - based upon the mere fact that you are here @ SETI . . .
