I have watched the cursor creep across the screen with an MS mouse as well. Usually, twitching the mouse a bit would stop the creep.

Hmmm. Is there nothing sacred anymore! LOL

PS - usually when a mouse is twitching, it's dead, so I hope it doesn't creep anymore. ;)

Nope, the company I worked for decided that it had some value, and kept it when we were all laid off.

Both mine and my lady partner's optical mice behave erratically. The cursor regularly flies around the screen, often closing windows as we are trying to do work. I ditched the BTC mouse I was using in favour of a "ball" mouse. Problem solved. After Christmas, I shall be getting a decent replacement for my partner's MS optical mouse, which is just as bad.

Well, I was making a joke about dead mouse carcasses, heading OT from actual computer mice, but I suppose we've veered back on topic.

For my experiences, I've used cheap Logitech mice and they've exhibited the problem described. I've used a more expensive Logitech and it worked flawlessly. I prefer the Microsoft mice, and I primarily use the MS Optical Explorer 3.0A without issue (I use an MS Optical Explorer 2.? for my file and print server without issue too).

Odd that so many people have had bad experiences with optical mice, but I suppose it's entirely possible. Unfortunate to swear off optical mice though, as I feel they're one of the greatest computer inventions (I can't stand ball mice anymore) in a long time. But, to each their own (YMMV, etc).
