Hello Everyone

I will attempt to keep information in the thread only, Pleae take time to read it as I receive any word that I can share it will show up here First. Now for information that I have dug up.

Prepaid Visa Gift Card

The google Search http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=visa+gift+card&spell=1

From Visa USA
Prepaid Visa Gift Card. They make cards that are "reloadable" or reuseable, that way you are not tempted to spend more than you have.

From Visa Europe
Visa Europe and it links to a Visa Prepaid information.

Is not only good for Seti, but if you need a last minute gift and not sure which gift card at what store... This might be more to your advantage.

Seasons Best Wishes

Pappa

Please consider a Donation to the Seti Project.

Pappa,

thanks for the info!

The fun part is, prepaid CCs have been available almost everywhere for a while, but here? They JUST started. I've been trying to get one forever.

Still, they want transaction fees even for prepaid cards...unbelievable. You have to "fill" it first (meaning THEY earn interest on your money) then you have to PAY for them to dole it out again...criminals :o)

Be that as it may, it's definitely the best possibility since you incur no annual fee. Thanks again!

Regards,
Simon.

Hello Everyone

I had opened a Thread to see if there were some reasons "technical" that might be overcame. As a result of a person posting a question we have a response from Eric. It might be worthwhile to so to go take a look at This Thread it explains part of the battle and why several of us are very concerned. the hard part is getting the information out to everyone.

Happy Holiday's

Pappa

P.S. Thank You Henri

Bob

I presume I should have stated if we go look at the Teams, we see many Notable Names of large and small companies. I have worked for companies that when they contract the right person in Public Relations can setup a Matching Funds. But in most cases it is for the Employee's to request it and spread the word internally. They then have the capability of the US Tax Write OFF and the ability to advertise they support whatever cause (and add another to the list). So if the employees raise even $500 and company matches the $500 and writes the check does a Press Release and Seti receives $1,000 Everybody Wins!

With Names like Microsoft, Sun, HP etc... one would think that if they had the word and started working on it then Seti Could have more Help. If an employee states that this is a worthwhile cause, then sometimes they go take a bigger look... They are looking for Tax Breaks...

The Key to getting this all going is information and "People" looking and trying... Many here keep digging for ideas... A Few keep trying to help people with ideas... Some manage to find a way, Those are the ones we want to reach.

"Each Individual" here that has contributed has did something personal and I commend each of You! We now need the "Groups" to insure that the word is spread.

Holidays Best

Pappa

Edit P.S. The individuals have managed to Raise $77418.15 in a little over three weeks that equates to 14.4% of the goal. As I said we need to find smarter ways to meet the Goal! Whether You Choose to display the Star or have quietly Donated, Thank You!

My Very Best Wishes

Henri

Thank You Everyone

To an extent an interesting bump in Donations happened on Christmas Eve 15 people donated $1730.00 when I have been saying I hope that we meet $700.00 day for basic operations.

I am sure that Seti, Thanks You for the Christmas Present.

Todate [27 Dec 2006 1:00:00 UTC] $81166.15 has been raised or 15.1% of the goal all within about 4 weeks... So while progress is not Earth Shaking it is Progress. So, "We" Can Do This!

The Science Page shows the status of the Alpha Receiver (MultiBeam). Testing of the ability to Crunch MultiBeam Workunits is in Progress in Seti Beta... There are a couple of things to be done before those workunits show up here...

At this point the Seti Lab should be fairly quiet... I suspect that the Staff is trying to get things done and be quiet so things will just happen after the first of the year. I do not expect much communications until sometime during the first week of January 2007

And you can always visit the bookstore and get some great reading, whilst contributing to the cause.

There's some good stuff in there!

So next time a friend or relative's birthday comes along .. you know where to look; SETI Store, or the bookstore! Unique and original gifts!

End of sales pitch ...

Evening Everyone

This will teach me to go take care of My Wife During Surgery... Many things are/have happened and I am so far behind that it will take until next week to catchup...

[2 Jan 2007 1:00:00 UTC] $85437.82 or 15.9% of the Goal. All of this in a little over 4 weeks.

Nov and Dec Raised $85142.82 or about 15.8% of the Goal or operations into Mar. Eric had stated that a new application needs to be compiled to have MultiBeam in Seti Main (or run out of things to crunch). Astropulse should be ready for testing here in the next few weeks.

Eric posted
Possible PayPal Solutions

I guess it'll be a race between this and getting our own non-profit corporation set up.

Matt had previously stated that the "Web Server is experiencing issues," and hopefully they will not cost money. It hardwarewise is very ancient...

If we believe BoincStats

Seti

Hosts 1,274,260 Total 328,007 Active
Teams 45,888 Total 21,308 Active

Seti Beta

Teams 450 Total 240 Active

Or roughly 190000 Active Users... So those that have donated are even more Important.

Thank You Everyone, I have not been beating up the Forums

Nov and Dec have brought in $88142.82. Including Jan $89317.82 or 16% of the Goal right now we are on a coast and rebuild mode and working on Information, PayPal, the Seti Non Profit Organization setup, MultiBeam to Seti Main before there are no more workunits to Crunch, Astropulse to Beta... This does not mention Eric is working on the Application that will need to be complied (it will be faster) to allow MultiBeam to move to Seti Main. And the Web Server is getting ready to collapse.

Many things are happening in the background and if you look at your account you will see rough numbers of the various projects that you have running "Statistics." Work on the BOINC Core to get it ready for All Boinc Projects

So as information about problems with getting donations to Seti was posted and the responses are looked at... Then ways to overcome those issues non technical and technical are being looked at.

I will note that some people that have donated a year ago or longer now no longer have a star. Yes people can turn them on or off (preferences) it is their choice...

I know that several people have volunteered to act as a PayPal Agent in the short term. There is discussion about how to accomplish that without creating mis-trust. Currently it will have to filter through UCB to get the Funds to Seti.

SO it boils down to If You Can and When You Can Donations are needed. If you can not, I and Seti Understand, there are times in everyones Life they wish they Could but reality bites.

So I will not disturb you for a couple more days. Seti Staff is working to get MultiBeam and the Seti Application ready for Seti Main.

Pappa

I was wondering, to help raise money for the project why not raffle of a couple machines? Someone build a couple Quad core machines and have a raffle. I would certainly buy a few! Just a thought.
