"Einstein@Home STATUS

[Last update: Thu Dec 7 19:42:12 UTC 2006]

Einstein@Home will be offline until further notice.

Two disks have failed in the main file server. This server uses a raid6
array so we cannot afford any to lose any more disks. The project will
remain offline until the raid array has time to rebuild.

More news will be posted here as it becomes available.

Thank you,
David Hammer"

Anyone have any idea how long this sort of thing takes to fix?

Depends on the speed of the drives, how big they are, and how much data has to be rebuilt.

Not very helpful, I know, but it could be hours, hours, and more hours.

Thank you Es, for the Update on this... Knightmare just told me after he attempted to go to the Einstein@Home home page. LOL This is definitely not good! (...and that's an understatement.)

I went there and found the same thing that you have posted here. So; until they replace the defective drives and have the system rebuild the Mirror-Array, they are down... As Labbie said, this could take hours upon hours... LOL

8-(

Es, can you please delete my "Closed - Due to a Similar..." Thread. It is attracting unwanted and unnecessary attention.

Thanks again, Es.

Also depends on whether they make the hard drives any more. For some servers you can only get second hand drives which can cost an arm and a leg and can take time to find.

Yea, OK Misfit, leave the project, but don't take the discs with you. And put the silverware back while you're at it :)

You see, I told you, you can't get hold of these discs any more. Ascii gold is the rarest - only superseded by hex gold. But then again binary gold is rising in price...

Update from Einstein
[Last update: Fri Dec 8 09:57:12 UTC 2006]

The raid array should finish rebuilding at about 15:00 UTC but the project
will be kept offline to upgrade some hardware in the fileserver that should
increase the reliability. We will try to have E@H running again by 22:00 UTC.
