Good morning, good afternoon. I'm having a cup of coffee, not steaming as it was a put I brewed yesterday and didn't drink it all, and my thermo is so good that it's still warm. I don't mind as I usually drink cold coffee also. So, a cup of lukewarm coffee from my thermo anyone? And no, it's not steaming, it is only lukewarm... [quote]I haven't seen "March of the Penguins", I've heard a lot of critique about it, yes, it's amazing picture-wise, but I'm not fond of movies where they humanize animals and, in this case, birds. @ Fuzzy - 1. You should actually 'see' the Movie (or) 2. Read up on 'what' the Film is about - it IS NOT regarding 'humanizing animals' - the Penquins did their 'thing' and (somebody) Filmed them doing it - it's not like they gave the Penquins a 'script' . . . ;) |

See below: Post 49860 Goodnight Beets. Your solution is fine. But you cannot keep on absorbing more and more of the world's poor. Of course people want to go where they will be better off, but primarily you have to stem the tide, and then use your suggested methods, or similar, to cope with those getting through. flaming balloons |

I agree. It was probably a publicity stunt. It's an expensive and dumb idea as a practical measure though, imho. |

I think it was more symbolic than effective, I am not sure you can climb on the ridges very well...

It's not practical to build a wall that long, or across the Canadian border, either. The experience in Israel is, that if you build a wall, they'll tunnel under it. My suggestion (only part of the solution) is a no-exceptions $10,000 Sin Tax for any employer found hiring an illegal alien. That will build up a fund to build more schools, hospitals and booklets. Give the workers you find a provisional green card and order them to immigration classes to learn the American norms and expectations. Hire more civilian inspectors to look for employers breaching the law; that's way cheaper than hiring police officers or border patrol guards. When they find workers, they should find out who their American relatives are: family should also sign a bond or make some small contribution to help guarantee that the workers will stay out of the welfare system. Going back 20 years ago, I met an American tourist, a lawyer from El Paso, Texas. She told me back then that El Paso is so Spanish that hardly anyone speaks English there. And that was 20 years ago! |

It's a Tale Of Two Cities - or Two Countries in this case. You feel sorry for the Mexicans, their poverty, their desperation to make it to the USA, those who have already made it crusading to help their own people. The Americans can see the problem; they cannot support any more outsiders, they cannot make more schools for them, more hospitals, more booklets in another language wherever you go. So what's the compromise? Put up the barriers and give the illegal immigrants a sporting chance? Seems a good compromise to me. They're going to try whatever you do. We have a similar problem with immigrants trying to get into the UK. What is our compromise? There isn't one - we don't want illegal immigrants and will do what it takes to keep them out. flaming balloons |

I'm sure she can get you a set with blue soles...she's an artist, remember? LOL I hear btw, that she's gotten a lot of charitable money to keep sending new orders to China. ;) So, how effective does this fence look to you guys now? I didn't want to ridicule the Minutemen, but the story does say it fell over a couple of times while they were putting it up. LOL |

Ahhh! But they're not generally know, you see. Only a handful of running shoe geeks (and now you guys) know about it. It's very "underground", very Hush! Hush! My sources say they sell for around $18-$20 in Mexico, btw. ;) |
