If a mod could please sticky this, that would be nice.

BOINC now has a Live help. You can find more information about it at http://boinc.berkeley.edu/help.php.

To be able to get the live help from one of the many volunteers, you will need to download and install a program called Skype. A lot of work has gone into creating this live help as another method to assist those who are having problems with the BOINC software, in hopes to get you up and running.

David is not yet ready for an announcement at S@H. There is still a detail or two to set up.

can you help me live help desk?

This is not the live help desk here, but just simply a message board. My first post gives you a link to the BOINC website, and a link to Skype, which is the chat program that the live help desk is using.

The basic Skype service is free. The Skype service to call real phones or receive from real phones is paid - however, BOINC does not use that. In any case, help through the forums is still available, and help through email is also available.

Simple Question - I just got my Intel Quad 2.66 up and running (Installed with Windows XP Pro SP2 32bit)- wondering if smeone happens to know where I can get the best optimized crunching platform program for this processor. Also would it be better to run Command Line or BOINC Manager with optimized files?

TYVM - just learning!

I was having the same difficulty. But one thing I have done to help get around times that the site is having difficulty is I have my account set to download enough packets to run for 8 days before running out. I upload results immediatly though. This way should the site go down for a few days I still stay productive and get credit. When the site comes back up you upload all compuleted packats and grab more packats as they become availible. Just mentioning this for all to benifit that may not know that they can configure this to plan ahead for crunching... Also seems seti@home is always down on Tuesdays. Wheather its for 24hrs or just a few hrs I have noticed this. If you need instructions or help on how to set your account up to download and store multiple days worth of work within your client just let us know.

Hope this helps!

I have a computer that is not always connected to the net so it stores up a bunch of crunched units and then I send them in when I connect it to the net. Yesterday and today when I have clicked on "Update" to send them in I get back the message in the "Status" column "Aborted by project" and I aparently lose EVERYTHING, ALL THE FINISHED UNITS are suddenly aborted? Anybody know what's going on. I'm not happy to be losing all that work, not happy at all.

In regards to your issue, this is a new Server side setting that the folks at UCB have done. If they get 2 results reported and they validate as being similar, they don't need the 3rd result, so, the next time your computer connects to get more work, the server sends a message saying those results are no longer needed. One way to defeat this, is to keep a smaller cache of WU's. Hope this helps.
