The RIAA is barking up the wrong tree, IMO. They need to endorse the exchange of files, just makes us pay for certain ones.

When I was doing a lot of DJ work ( which was a few years ago ) there were ( I think ) three sources that you had to pay if you wanted to be able to ( legally ) use MP3 files for a show. I can't remember for sure if it was two or three.

Anyway, the total cost was around $150 USD for one year. That covered all the rights to use any music you wanted to use. I didn't mind paying that. It was a whole lot cheaper than going out and buying cds that would only have a couple of useable songs on them.

The thing is, everyone wants something for nothing. They figure " Why pay for it if it's available free ? Even if it is illegal. "

The RIAA is figuring it's an all or nothing deal. Either you pay for all of them, or you get nothing.

Ummm...you just brought Microsoft into this lawsuit and you can BET if they think the internet is going to be shutdown, they will be in there to oppose this lawsuit.
And yes it could be shutdown, by threat of lawsuit. If you were and ISP and were told that any file crosses your wires you go to jail, you will shut down.

Er um er um. It physically couldn't be shut down because you would need to turn off every server in every country. The world did survive before ARPANET, and probably would again without it, but the ramifications are mind boggling.

Here in the UK, kids of 7 or 8 are EXPECTED to go home and surf the internet to produce homework for the next day. If it wasn't available, then the whole education policy in this country alone would go out the window.

Apart from anything else, we all know how much international criminal organisations have funded internet porn. Are they likely to stand by and see their income disappear?

Well. lets get it a bit in perspective here. It was an american lawyer that apparently made the comment. As 99% of them seem to be frustrated actors, I think we can take it that it was nothing more than a theatrical outburst, in a pathetic attempt to bolster his case.

In fact, all he has done is to make himself and his firm look like total idiots.
