How do I stop SETI@Home from running multiple instances. That is stop more than one work unit running at any one time.. I have set my general preferences to use only one cpu. I am using an Intel 3.0ghz P4 with HT |

Sounds like you did everything right. Have you forced BOINC Manager to download the new preferences? If you haven't, click on the Projects tab in BOINC Manager, click on SETI@Home, then click on the Update button to the left. You may have to exit and restart BOINC Manager for this option to enable properly. |

Do you mean 2 are running simultaneously, or one is running, and one has run but is pending? The latter can not be changed, because of the way the scheduler looks at the units and decides certain ones need to be done before others, to make sure they all get in on time. In global_prefs.xml, check the value of max_cpus. BOINC is supposed to run one task per CPU up to max_cpus. If you are having difficulty getting the preferences to download from S@H, you can create a global_prefs_override.xml file by copying the global_prefs.xml file. Strip all of the venue specific information, and modify the tags to suit. Any tag not in the override file will take the value specified in the global_prefs.xml file. BOINC WIKI |

Thank You to John McLeod I edited the MAX CPU in the Global XML File and it worked, One section had max cpu as 1 and another sesction had it as 2, so I made both of them max cpu 1. Now I only have one task actually running and the others are waiting to be done. Should make it a bit easier to do som e other work on the computer now |
