I meant "our" in the sense of: "the one we belong to". ...Not as ownership. I'm sorry you misunderstood me. |

Please keep the hostility to a minimum, make every effort to discuss things rationally...and please listen to each other and give due consideration towards differences of opinions. |

We're starting to go around in circles here and we're also starting to just repeat ourselves. I don't like your attempt to recruit people away from these forums. But so long as you people don't think that having a safe harbour is a foundation for causing trouble on these forums, I could care less about your shadow SETI@home Cafe. There! I've said my piece, and I'll now retire from this thread. |

We're starting to go around in circles here and we're also starting to just repeat ourselves. I agree, we have gone around in circles here. But, I still do not see how this is any kind of an attempt of "recruiting" people away from here? Most everyone who posts there still posts here, so no one is being dragged away. This place isn't a safe harbour. No forum will ever be. With what Jonathan/lockton posted at the beginning: Following on from my posts in this thread here. For people that may want a change or to try something new, or even just to use a forum with more features, I have set up an independently run Unofficial Cafe SETI Forum which can be found here. There are no, and never will be any, charges for using this forum. Just to give you an idea of some of the features: # Picture Uploading # Email-like private messaging system # Personal Profiles # Message formatting with various font styles and sizes as well as allowing quoting, code display, image posting and automatic URL linking # Support of standard and extended BBCode tags # Polls can be simply added to posts # Email notification of replies to your topics # Powerful topic subscription capability The list goes on...and on... Anyway, I hope this may be of use? What do you think? It should be noted that this idea has 'not been discouraged or endorsed however' by SETI@Home. See you there. He didn't set it up to pull people away, he set it up with the intention that the CAFE would close sometime. I see it as an act of good faith on his part. Just as it is with someone over in the Number Crunching forums who set up a website to earn cash to donate to SETI. He did it with good faith, and people slammed him too. Those are my 2 cents worth, for what its worth.

It's not Berkeley's wall-o-graffitti, therefore it's not their problem... so why are we talking about it? |

We're starting to go around in circles here and we're also starting to just repeat ourselves. Why do you care if these people leave? You don't like most of them anyway? I don't understand why you are complaining. Isn't this what you wanted? Reality Internet Personality |

Well, Beets, I would be very sorry if you thought that the small message I wrote in your "Beethoven's IX" was an attempt to empty the Cafe SETI to the benefit of the (Unofficial) Cafe SETI. That's not at all what I meant. The new Cafe is only another place where to post and meet people, that's all and I wondered if some members here would like to participate. I hope I made myself clear ... :) Anne © anne schmidt - L'Humeur Bleue |

Well, Beets, I would be very sorry if you thought that the small message I wrote in your "Beethoven's IX" was an attempt to empty the Cafe SETI to the benefit of the (Unofficial) Cafe SETI. Good morning all. Like Anne I have just joined and think the new forum makes for an "insurance", and place to go, if this Forum is terminated. For the reasons Anne has given, and outlined by iX, I think the move by Johanathan Locton is an excellent one! Now for a cuppa Java ... It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

Well, Beets, I would be very sorry if you thought that the small message I wrote in your "Beethoven's IX" was an attempt to empty the Cafe SETI to the benefit of the (Unofficial) Cafe SETI. John and Anne, I'm with you. I was skeptical at first thinking it was a bit of a cheek to create a breakaway forum since this might signal the collapse of the existing one. I don't think this is the case at all. I think there are many who support SETI but feel uncomfortable about posting here for whatever reason. So an alternate cafe is a good idea, as in 'another one', as there are many cafes in a high street, not just the one. It can only do SETI good to have crunchers who have a variety of facilities to choose from, or use them all. flaming balloons |
