I agree, we have gone around in circles here. But, I still do not see how this is any kind of an attempt of "recruiting" people away from here? Most everyone who posts there still posts here, so no one is being dragged away.

This place isn't a safe harbour. No forum will ever be. With what Jonathan/lockton posted at the beginning:

He didn't set it up to pull people away, he set it up with the intention that the CAFE would close sometime. I see it as an act of good faith on his part. Just as it is with someone over in the Number Crunching forums who set up a website to earn cash to donate to SETI. He did it with good faith, and people slammed him too.

Those are my 2 cents worth, for what its worth.

I've been using The Unofficial Cafe SETI right from the word "go" and I think its absolutely fab. Well done Jonathan and the guys and gals over there making it work. You should all try it out. John and Anne, I'm with you. I was skeptical at first thinking it was a bit of a cheek to create a breakaway forum since this might signal the collapse of the existing one. I don't think this is the case at all. I think there are many who support SETI but feel uncomfortable about posting here for whatever reason. So an alternate cafe is a good idea, as in 'another one', as there are many cafes in a high street, not just the one. It can only do SETI good to have crunchers who have a variety of facilities to choose from, or use them all.
