There was no way to figure out if that election was good or not, therefore the stink about paper trails.

One could make an argument like that about almost any voting system.

You can't check the mechanical machines either. Yet those have been used for years.

Look at the Florida "paper trails." They were insufficient, and people then crabbed about what constituted a valid vote. Every time they were counted, there were chads all over the floor when they were done.

In other words, there will likely always be some way to manipulate vote tallies. Even with paper trails. That's the problem with anonymous voting. Once you vote, no one can actually track it.

Well, in that case we have to go with Nancy Pelosi: Either the Democrats win or the Republicans cheated.
Why, you ask?
Because she said it first, so it must be so!

Yup, I agree! Apparently they feel these ads sway people. I'm finding myself more apt to vote against the flamers.

Next election we should be able to vote against a candidate instead of voting for the lesser of two evils. Much easier that way, IMO.

Nah, it'll never happen. That's what is beautiful about America, we'll always be voting for the lesser of two idiots, er' evils.

I have to agree...what this country needs is a middle of the road party where the NeoCons and the Pinkos are not welcome.

A Moderate Pary would take off, but the system created by the Republicans and the Democrats is designed to perpetuate the status quo.

You need a multilple voting system to be able to effectively have more than two parties.

Gee, I wonder if now that the Dems have control of the House if we'll continue to hear about hacking attempts and voter fraud or "as if overnight" they have decided the machines are legit?

Nope. At least some of us consider the machines dangerously broken, and this determination does not rest on who won. There is still no way of proving that the election was not rigged or stolen.

Which, as I noted before, you could not do with the other systems that have been in use for years. In fact, it's probably not possible with anonymous voting.

At least with most systems, there is a method of determining whether there was cheating - even if there then can be no way of figuring out who won.

Paper ballots can be numbered - and if you are missing a ballot, its number will not appear in the sequence.

Lever machines can be inspected for physical tampering.

DRE machines have the distinction of having no audit trail of any sort, and some hacks can leave no traces that the hack occurred.

Intent on voting, Pa. woman, 95, calls 911

Associated Press

READING, Pa. - Anna Urban has been voting since Franklin D. Roosevelt was president and wasn't about to miss an election.

When the 95-year-old Reading resident didn't have a ride to the polls Tuesday, she didn't hesitate. She dialed 911.

Dispatchers forwarded the call to the Berks County Election Services office, where it was considered a compliment.

"To call 911 and ask for help to vote really says a lot," said Deborah M. Olivieri, election services director. "It meant a lot to everyone in this office; it made us feel what we do is worthwhile."

County Commissioner Judith L. Schwank immediately picked up Urban, and Urban walked to the voting booth at Millmont Elementary School on her arm.

"All my life I voted," said Urban, a Democrat, who cast her first ballot in the 1930s. "You need to vote to be a good citizen."

============

And all this time I thought it was considered a crime to call 911 for non-emergency purposes.
