10/13/06 6:06:39 AM||Starting BOINC client version 5.2.8 for windows_intelx86 Granted it's not a BOINC problem, it's a WIN98 issue. But my whimpy spare computer running WIN98 had NO problems running the old client. I won't update that computer to W2KPro, my OS of choice 'cause it doesn't have the cpu or memory to run it. So needles to say, I guess I will run Folding@Home on it as well. -Friday |

10/13/06 6:06:39 AM||Starting BOINC client version 5.2.8 for windows_intelx86 BOINC 5.2.8 is an old ALPHA version. You may want to update to at least something newer and later from http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php 10/23/06 8:56:55 AM|SETI@home|Result 01ap99ab.20150.17296.865892.3.197_3 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file This message has an explanation. Read it all. It's benign. Although in your case it's most definitely due to Windows 98. The Seti Enhanced 5.15 application still has problems with Win9x timers. And until the next version of the Seti Enhanced application (5.18 probably) is released, there's not going to be any fixes. It's not a BOINC problem. |

The old version worked well on the system that I have set up to run Seti. It's using Windows 98 and BOINC just has a fit on it. Seti is all it runs, no screensaver or any other programs. I have tried Boinc. The getting the seti project in it was a bore. Then loosing it a few times was an even greater bore. After several attempts and loosing it again I gave up on it. The original Seti@home software was stable and easy to use. The boinc software is an unstable user unfriendly mess. If something is worth doing it is probably worth doing badly. |

I don't understand what all the fuss is about. I have been running under BOINC since it went public. We have had some bumps in the road, but nothing that would make me say forget it. |

I've read the "reads" and this is just too much to go through. I used the old style and was VERY satisfied with the results. But I have Bonk-ed on BOINC. Thanks for the opportunity! If you explained what your problem is, we could possibly help. There are currently over 317,828 host actively crunching for Seti and a total of 414,373 host actively working on various Boinc projects. It can't be that hard to do. So just ask for help. What is your problem? There is most likely a simple solution. Boinc V7.2.42 Win7 i5 3.33G 4GB, GTX470 |
