This error could have a lot of reasons...

Server problems or servers are bussy or some problems on your firewall.
I did not seen your Linux system in your computers list, so it could be, that the attachment has not worked right. Could you please do a "reset project" from the boincmanager, or stop the boinc client and start it with "./boinc_client -reset_project http://setiathome.berkeley.edu".
Also, what happens if you retry to attach to the project again.

It could also be roblems with the rights of your boinc directory. Could you please verify, that your boinc directory and the subdirectory projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu has read, write and execute rights for your user under which boinc run.

Do you have started the boinc_client directory from the directory, where boinc_client is installed ?

Hi

I reset the project from the Manager but I am still getting the same error. I have attached to Seasonal Attribution on this PC since I have had this error so it is something to do with SETI.

Sat 28 Oct 2006 11:24:58 AM EDT|CPDN Seasonal Attribution Project|New host venue: home
Sat 28 Oct 2006 11:24:58 AM EDT|CPDN Seasonal Attribution Project|Successfully attached to CPDN Seasonal Attribution Project

I reset and then I detached.
I still get the error when I try to attach.

It looks like this is a problem on the SETI site.
Which boinc client version do you use ?
Do you use a proxy server ?

SAP is out of work, so if you still didn't get a model to work on, you can safely detach from this project again. No new work will be generated. You can attach to the normal CPDN project instead.

A system fopen error can also occur when the directory that BOINC runs from, or one of its sub-directories is hidden, read-protected or doesn't have rights to be written to.

I will have another look but I went through each folder and had a look when I got the error as that is what I thought it might be. It seems strange that this only happens with SETI. I have also attached to Eistein, Xtremlab, WCG on this PC sucessfully but only SETI won't connect. I will just detach nad forget it.

SETI has a newer server software in use like the other projects.
Please be patitient and stanby till the problem is fixed. We are only volunteers here in the forums, and no system administrators on the SETI servers. So we must collect information about every failure, an report them to the SETI devs and admins.

I am still standing by, any word on if and when a fix might be available or do I just not use my Linux PC's for SETI. I haven't tried for a while though so I should do that and see if it is fixed. I will advise.

Do you have still the same problem ?
Btw. have you tried to update your BOINC Client ? - The 5.3.12 is from a very old alpha test client source.

I upgraded to the latest Linux version of BOINC and installed it as root and I was able to attach to seti.

I am now set, that's for the help.

I think, that your problems was caused by the old BOINC client version...
5.3.x had a lot of bugs.
