Hi. Thanks Crun3r. Installed OK as far as i can see so far. I just installed over the previous x64 version of yours. Mae backups etc and disconnected net first just in case of course.

Are the benchmarks necessary? Just seems a bit pointless now since they're not used. Or are they? Anyway seems like something that could just be dumped and clean the code a little. Anyway you'd know better than me.

What are the difference between this and the previous one?

Scratch that. Not quite working properly. After closing and reopening Boinc it wont restart the work. I have to manually suspend and re-set it to work before it'll restart the work. Also I seem to be having a bit of trouble with setting the network preferences between suspended and always active. Also seems to set itself to network activity to always available when loading up boinc.

The 64bit version wont work with Win2K

Couln't someone like have mentioned this before I futile started to try to install this to my Core 2 Duo E6400 and my AMD 64 3000+ PC !!!!!!

I posted this in response to your other post about this. Of course it won't work with Windows 2000. Windows 2000 is a 32 bit operating system. One needs to use Windows XP x64 Edition or one of the Linux 64 bit operating systems to use the Optimized BOINC 64 bit software.

If you don't understand that Win2K is a 32bit OS and X64 is a 64bit OS, then why are you installing anything without asking first?

Why would you even waste your time running Win2K on a nice system like that? Upgrade to X64 to get the real benefit of the expensive hardware you purchased.

Message 501407 - Posted: 12 Jan 2007, 5:34:46 UTC - in response to Message 501227.

I've updated the BOINC clients to 5.9.0.

http://calbe.dw70.de/index.html

THANKS!

Let me ask a few questions.

1) The latest alpha version is 5.8.2 (even though it self identifies as 5.9.0 (I think)). Is this really 5.8.2?

2) Does it still have affinity and return results immediately both turned on?

3) General question: Assuming I have a 64 bit processor, and a 64 bit OS, do I need to use a 64 bit BOINC client to run a 64 bit application? Or will any old BOINC client run a 64 bit application? I know that sounds like a "well duh" question, but I wan to be sure.

4) Any chance you could/would compile a Mac client with affinity and return results immediately both turned on?

TIA!

FYI about abc@home:

- give fixed credits

- have discovered that 64 bit applications are about 3 times faster (but not currently offered)

- are considering offering 64 bit applications, and awarding 3x credits for WUs.

I don't know, the source i used had the version tag 5.9.0.
Probably Rom Walton knows what's behind all that version mix ;)

2) Does it still have affinity and return results immediately both turned on?

Yes. Both are turn on by default.

3) General question: Assuming I have a 64 bit processor, and a 64 bit OS, do I need to use a 64 bit BOINC client to run a 64 bit application? Or will any old BOINC client run a 64 bit application? I know that sounds like a "well duh" question, but I wan to be sure.

Well, i tested a 32 bit BOINC with a 64 bit seti app. once ... result was a crash due to the fact that boinc said it could not communicate with the application.

4) Any chance you could/would compile a Mac client with affinity and return results immediately both turned on?
TIA!

If i had a MAC i could... Wanna buy me one ;)

Hello,

I've updated the BOINC clients to 5.9.0.

http://calbe.dw70.de/index.html

I had 5.9.0 running and all(on two PCs total), But It wouldn't upload for some reason and I wasn't able to start uploading until I reverted back to 5.4.11 or 5.5.0(Yours of course). I also was not able to make 5.4.11 on one machine able to use the 64bit client(5.7.0.64 or 5.9.0.64), It said that the app was misconfigured and to fix the app would have to be reinstalled. I'd tried to copy the files from a folder on the same PC and across a network(It worked on other PCs I have) and no luck. Out of My 4 PCs 3 are using XP x64, I wouldn't try and use a 64bit file or files on a non 64bit OS.

Not sure what happened on your side. Works fine for me.
You could try to register the DLLs manualy that came with the new release.

And check dependencies of the boinc.exe ... take a look at http://www.dependencywalker.com/ to see if something is missing.

I'm don't know. They are still in beta right now, which is at a different location:

http://abcathome.com/beta/

I think they are planning on coming out of beta over this weekend.

if one what's the 64 bit boinc client and manager, well take a look at
http://calbe.dw70.de ...

It's all there ....

Nice, Now a fully functiong 64bit SSE2 app that will work in both Intel cpus and AMD cpus that is fast and produces valid results would be nice. Yes I just started running You 64bit windows XP64 client 5.7.64 interesting. 8,512K or so as It gone up to 8,888K now(boinc.exe) and 11,056K(boincmgr.exe).

"floating point" was higher using Your SSE2 32bit boinc.exe, But the integer is double what It used to be. I couldn't believe My eyes, So I ran the Benchmarks again.

Hi Batman or should i say Joker :-);

"It gone up to 8,888K now(boinc.exe) and 11,056K(boincmgr.exe)" is the same as what i'm seeing here...

regarding the benchmars ...well it is kind of weired ...no optimizations have been enabled during compilation at all (everything was switched to lowest value) ... i don't know what happens there...

P.S. I could modify the source of the "benchmark" to half the value ... to match the value of the stock client ... would that be cosidered as cheating to modify the source to get lower benchmarks ???

It was just an interesting event, that's all(Besides I don't know if the benchmarks are wrong or not). Nice lookin program though, We now just need a really optimized xp64 SSE2 app for Intel and AMD cpus. ;)

may be used this : very very nice and useful optimization guide for AMD64 CPUs ....

Hello,

I've updated the BOINC clients to 5.9.0.

http://calbe.dw70.de/index.html

@Crunch3r: The benchmarks for the 32 bit version jumped way up compared to 5.8.*. This was not the case for the 5.7.5 version (benchmarks remained the same as 5.4.11). Why the change? Is there any other difference with 5.9?

Hi,

The only thing i changed was that it was compiled with vs 2005 (5.7.5 was build with vs 2003) didn't turn on any specific compiler flags.

Not sure what is happening there, but i noticed the same behavior on previous 64 bit versions.

It's quite strange running the benchmarks manually 10 times gives 70% normal benchmarks (comparable to the stock 32 bit version) and 30% are totaly off... icreasing the scores sometimes by 150%...

I've got no clue what is causing that.

I will disable the automatic benchmarks in the next release so that you have to run it manually.

i've added a 64 bit port of BOINC 5.4.11 to my download page for those who prefer the latest stable release.

Hi Crunch3r!

I am wondering if you could possibly compile an SSSE3 BOINC Client and SETI app for Core 2 Duo processors? 32 bit and/or 64 bit?

BOINC or/and SETI ?

[edit]

There is no such thing like SSE2/SSE3 for 64 bit windows if you like it unoptimized...

There's just a "favour" towards AMD64 or EM64T
