Message 410718 - Posted: 30 Aug 2006, 3:41:43 UTC - in response to Message 410716.

This creature was found by Russian soldiers on Sakhalin shoreline. Sakhalin area is situated near to Japan, it’s the most eastern part of Russia, almost 5000 miles to East from Moscow (Russia is huge). People don’t know who is it. According to the bones and teeth - it is not a fish. According to its skeleton - it’s not a crocodile or alligator. It has a skin with hair or fur. It has been said that it was taken by Russian special services for in-depth studies, and we are lucky that people who encountered it first made those photos before it was brought away.

That's awesome. I hope it's real. The scale in photos can be deceiving though it may be like your car mirror "Objects are larger than they appear"

Read the comments section after the article. I agree with the ones that say it's just a rotting Beluga whale carcass.

Entirely possible. I only posted it for discussion purposes....lol

Wouldn't you think they would know a Beluga carcass when they saw one though?

Message 410715 - Posted: 30 Aug 2006, 3:38:02 UTC - in response to Message 410711.

Explanation by Tim O'Brien:
A cow has four stomachs and once it starts to eat something it cannot stop and it cannot regurgitate. So, as a cow seeks out salt while in the field, he will lick other cows backs and in the process get small hairs. Those hairs cannot go into the number two stomach because of a filter between the first and second stomach, so the hair, salt and whatever just sits there in the first stomach going round and round and forming a hairball. During slaughter, the inspectors see a lump in the stomach, cut it open to make sure it isn't a cancer, and low and behold, there's a bovine hairball! It is hard covered because of the calcification process. However, this one has a few chips in the bottom and you can see the small hairs. If you lick it, you can taste the salt. Also, since a cow cannot regurgitate, we have a bunch of cool cow stomach artifacts, including farm tools, but most impressively, a calcified, 175 foot long garden hose!

WHAT IS HE DOING LICKING IT EXACTLY ?? Whaaaa?

That is crazy! And we worry about undigested beef? =0

Before the chemistry machine existed in the lab, how do you think they used to check for sugar in the urine? yuk!

I'm somewhere under this big cloud!

WOW Mulder, you take care! :-)

Oh for goodness sake, it was 60 odd years ago, dry your eyes, I appreciate your sentimant but - I stopped suffering a while back, and he's dead so he stopped suffering even longer ago. It's nice to know that people can still care about a forgotten aspect of WW2!

Maggie, the pic is of Ernesto, a tropical hurricane over Miami right now, a very recent one, it's actually happening right now. So, I worry for Mulder, who's sitting right now in the middle of it.

I'm sorry for your loss though. :-)

Hey Scott....I don't know if this may have gotten buried before you saw it but we are going to be discussing the website in the team thread in the recruitment center.

It'll help keep the team thread on top and we won't have to wander off topic in here. :-)

I just wanted to stop in and let everyone that posts in this thread know how deeply I love you all....lol. You are all just so special to me!

Has someone been feeding you too much sugar again???? LMAO

Yeah, someone sneaked up on me and injected me with it...

LOL. I really MUST remember to hide the hypodermics.

Yeah, but are you sure that the hypodermic he took had glucose??? It could have been one of CA's new Insulin shots... LOL

Speaking of CA, I REALLY hope he is doing better... My father-in-law has diabetes and started shots a few months back...

With my weight where it currently is, I am getting concerned, too... Especially since prednisone and medrol, (as corticosterroids), "can cause diabetes"... LOL

So far I've been lucky... 8-D

And for just a split second this morning, before I figured out what you were doing I was truely concered about you. I thought to myself, dude check your blood sugar. But as it turned out you were just caught in a conundrum and that is easier than human biology. lol

Poor dead thing, does it matter what it was? All this specualation, where does it lead to? So we have to know everything that walks, crawls, swims or slithers across the face of the earth? I don't think so, there are enough mysteries in the universe, without tormenting what is left on this planet, leave it be, if we are meant to know, we will know!

I was under the impression they dug it up not that they killed it. I meant I hope it's not a hoax but some new undiscovered species extinct or not. We know so little and I am always excited by the prospect of finding undiscovered forms of life. If only to prove to science that it's not as important to know as it is to remain teachable. Discoveries like this are the great equalizer because they shake our foundation.

Do we really need to know about a new species? What do you find exciting about the okapi? A curious beast, but, well, yet another four-legged thing, yet its' existence was denied for years! You say we know so little, so little about what? Beasties are beasties, I know guys who get excited about teansy little flies. To them, cullicoides impuctates are as important as any giant thingy that's dug out the ground.
