Hmmmm.... Seems that swapping out the power supplies has done some good. The XP CPU is running at below the temp that it would if BOINC were not running. BOINC is running. Maybe it's that big honkin' fan. Maybe it's the Christmas lights flashing in it. Who knows? I sure ain't gonna complain.... (-:<

Man! If I had $3200 to throw at building a new box, I'd be building one BAD A$$ server.... (-:<

I'd go with parting it. You can have it your way with what you want. That's why I do mine that way.... (-:<

Yeah that's prolly what I will do....I'm gonna wait about a month or so though because I got my eye on the X6800 intel chip and I want to see the price drop under $1K for the chip first...

What's up with computer component manufacturers? I got a 450W power supply today and replced the 430W I had in the box. It has this big honkin' fan, almost 5 inches. After putting the box back together and hooking up all my stuff to it, I switched it on and the fan looks like a Christmas tree with flashing colored lights. It's actually kind of cool, but why? What's the point of all the lights inside a computer box....? (-:<

Not much. All they do is eat up more system power. Alienware (Deceiveware) uses these kinds of funky lights.

I haven't read anything about or heard about the X6800 Intel chip. So, I cannot comment on it. When I first saw the number, Motorola popped into mind. They did put out a CPU with numbers like 68030. In the OS-9 world [not to be confused with Apple's OS/9 OS] we called them the 68K chips. OS-9 was like todays Linux. It was based on Unix, but much closer. I actually ran it on a Radio Shack Tandy Color Computer III, with a 68B09E Motorola CPU that ran a blazing 1.78 Mhz. I upgraded the memory from 256K to 512K RAM. It would run circles around MS-DOG back then. I saw a setup where the CoCo III was running a miniature train set while the operator was working in a word processor and a spread sheet at the same time. The 6809 was actually considered more a control chip than a CPU per se.... (-:<

Good idea. All you need to do is just hang some ornaments on them.
