Seti doesn't keep a record of all results crunched, as that would cost a lot of database space. So after a result has been validated and granted credit, it is purged (deleted) from the database.

Actually, the information is added to the main database, so the information for the WU is preserved, but the online database would get too large, and no one would be able to see web pages, etc. with the thousands, millions, whatever amount of work that gets done per user, etc.

The results are deleted after all work units have reported in, or timed out, and have been added to the science database.

This frees up disk space, otherwise they would need to constantly add new disks. It is just the results that are cleaned up, your credits aren't touched. The faster that people report in, the faster your results page is cleaned up.

I'm not sure what's happening with my result count. I was at 56 for a day or so... and then I noticed that my result count was going down. It's now down to 42. The only time my count goes up is after the credit is granted... so I'm not sure what would cause my results count to go down. Any ideas?
