Was wondering if my laptop can crunch any faster.

Anyone look at my setup and give me some ideas ?

Did I leave the parking brake on ?

Well, if your laptop is using a "power manager" tool it is possible that CPU frequency is "downgraded" to save energy. But my guess is it simply has to do with the size of the WUs, they come in different sizes... and if you've only recently switched to SETI enhanced, you will certainly find that the WUs take longer now...

Changed over to SETI enhanced long time ago.

Some days the computer can crank out 100+ CREDIT'S, other days only do 50.

The only other program running is "Ramdisk v1.3" (not sure if it helps)

As far a the power manager, I have the display turn off & shut down the disk drive as needed. The processer "should be" working at full speed.

The laptop on all day / night , using Cable modem.

[edited WU's out, changed to CREDIT'S]

You might try one of the optimized clients. My old laptop with a Celeron 1.5, is doing work units from 35,000 to 55,000 seconds, your laptop should be faster. These times for my laptop were before I installed the optimized client. I have not run with the optimized client, long enough to tell if there will be much improvement.

I haven't seen a laptop yet that can crank out over 100+ WU per day, and 50 is hardly feasible too, with SETI@Home Enhanced. Your AMD mobile Athlon XP 2200+ certainly isn't capable of doing that much. Maybe with the old SETI app when one could do a WU in half an hour, but not with Enhanced.

Are you confusing BOINC-SETI with SETI@Home Enhanced? I ask this because you say you've changed over to SETI Enhanced a long time ago, yet it was only released a couple months ago. How long is a long time ago to you?

Yes, that excatly what happened, I was thinking about when I switched over to BOINC-SETI.

(I should have said credits, not WU's)

Looking at my detailed stats, I did have some days with over 100 credits.

In that case, there's nothing wrong with your system. When you started using BOINC-SETI, you were still using an app similiar to SETI@Home Classic, taking only a short time to do a workunit. Back then, it was completely possible to do a hundred workunits in a day. But no one is using the old, outdated app anymore. It has been obsoleted by Berkeley.

A couple months ago, everyone was automatically upgraded to SETI@Home Enhanced (precisely when you see the drop off point in your graph in June '06). This new app increased the amount of time it takes to do a workunit by multiples, because it is "looking" deeper in the data for signs of life.

Your system isn't operating slower; the workunits are simply more intense to do than the old ones.

Exactly how would I try one of the optimized clients ?

Forgive my lack of knowledge here, I do not spent full time on the boards here.

Note that over the short term credit granted, as shown in that graph, doesn’t just depend on your system’s performance and dedication, but also on how fast your ‘quorum partners’ return their copies of the same WUs, and how soon the project’s servers get around to validating them. There can be several days, even weeks sometimes, between the time a result is returned and when it’s granted credit. Over the long term, though, these ‘blips’ average out.

Seems to be averageing at 80ish Credits/day.

Mines a lot less smooth with high peaks and low spots since I tend to disconnect it from the net and take it with me on my travels while it crunches through the cached WU's and then disgorges them in a rush when I get home from a few days on the road.
Still a laptop tho :D

But when left on 24/7 it tends to do a lot more than 100 credits/day.

Well, mine is a Celeron M and gives me about 120 Credits per day at most... so your numbers sound completely okay to me...
