Hello all,

I have 3 machines running BOINC software: 1 linux and 2 windows XP. I set them all up to be able to connect remotely from the Boinc Manager on any machine to a client on any other machine. This used to work fine.

Unfortunately, I changed the workgroup on one of the machines temporarily, and when I changed it back to the original workgroup, I could not connect remotely to the BOINC client on that machine anymore. I can connect from the BOINC manager on that machine to both the local BOINC client and remote clients but I cannot connect from the BOINC manager on a remote machine to the BOINC client on that machine.

I thought it was the firewall settings which changed due to changing the workgroup but this occurs even when I disable the firewall.

It is not a password or remote_hosts.cfg issue. I checked that. That is fine and the configuration has not changed since the time it was working.

Does anybody have an idea as to what could have caused this? And as to why a TEMPORARY workgroup change could have caused this?

Actually I figured it out (of course, right after I post my message).

Mea Culpa.

It seems that when I changed workgroups, it enabled the built-in Windows firewall (which I usually always have disabled because I use Norton Internet Security, myself). When I realized that, I disabled that firewall and it worked.
