The concensus would depend on who you ask....lol

SETI may well be "holding out on us"!!!
However, the organisation we are crunching for is NOT SETI...

It is SETI@home!

There are perhaps dozens of searches for ET going on around the world. Some are reputable, many are of dubious reputation.

The fact SETI@home has NOT gone streaking down the high street yelling "Eureka!" Makes them, IMHO, a reputable organisation.

The trouble comes when ANY oranisation with SETI as part of it's name makes an announcement. The world's "journalists" treat them all as one organisation. This is due to ignorance, and nothing more.

Definition of consensus:

1. An opinion or position reached by a group as a whole: “Among political women... there is a clear consensus about the problems women candidates have traditionally faced” (Wendy Kaminer).
2. General agreement or accord: government by consensus.

Firstly, those claims were made by Dr. Steven Greer MD.

He runs CSETI which is NOT a search for extraterrestial intelligence project. CSETI stands for Center for the STUDY of Extra Terrestrial Intelligence. They believe they are in psychic contact with aliens among many other odd things.
Strange claims of Dr. Greer

This is the source of last weeks 'rumor' he was referring to. It surfaced on the 'Coasttocoast' show. There were 4 or 5 threads made about it as the story circled the globe thru different newspapers, etc.

Don't worry....I'm doing my best to keep my Noodly factor at Warp 8 or better.

This is a fun thread. Now to get a bit more serious about this, what is the possibility that SETI@home has found ET and is "not allowed" to release the info? I suspect that there is some form of life to be found elswhere in this universe or perhaps in the Multiverse. I have no doubt that Seti(commonly used to refer to SETI@home) is being closely watched by the "USA" government. I have no doubt that Seti would not be allowed to release any such info to the general public. Then of course proof of the existance of ET would really pull the rug out from under those who believe in this invisible god business. There are many powerful interests on our planet that would suppress this info with all their power and right near the top the list would be the oil cartel. ET would likey have a decent ability to generate and store electricity and that would impact the bottom line for the oil cartel. I am sure many of you could come up with a list, better than mine, but these are some of my ideas.

See this thread

I think people would still cling to religion for the most part and there wouldn't be much of a shakeup there.

Seti or Setiathome would need to inform the world of a confirmed transmission in order to properly monitor it. It would be a signal floating free in the air for anybody anywhere to pick up and there's no way around that fact.

Oil cartels able to suppress it? They couldn't if they wanted to. Besides, even if we identified a signal as of intelligent origin there's no reason to expect that if we translated it somehow it would be a list of instructions about how to save $$$ on our electric bills. :-)

In this Cafe there is also a 'myths, legends, science' thread where a few of us discuss things like this from time to time. Coast to Coast radio is often a topic there at night. You may want to visit there also if you have the time.

Umbrage? Nooooo don't take my umbrage. I need my umbrage so!
----------------------------------------

If you discuss it in here or in that 'Myths' thread that will give other people the chance to chime in with their opinions too. So let's start that way?

If you haven't already I'd recommend the link I posted to that thread in the Science forum where 'Nobody' posted several informative links concerning your questions.

Actually Robert, Myth Legend Science hasn't had a post in a couple of months now.

However, the Myth Legend Conspiracy thread is active.

p.s. Dude, if you are gonna try to attract people to the thread, at least try to send them to the right one! LMAO

Robert is right though, a couple of us do listen to the show nightly, and we do discuss the topics and guests when we feel it's warranted. We also remember to keep things ( for the most part ) on the lighter side of things so we do have quite a bit of fun there. Everyone is more than welcome to chime in on the subject of their choice since there isn't much that is off limits. Bigfoot, UFOs, whatever, it's all open for discussion.

@Lorne
In my opinion the discovery that ET was real would reinforce some peoples religious belefs.I am not very religious my self,so as I said it is only an opinion.
