I would like to ask a science question, to anyone with an understanding of just how a WU is processed. Just why is it that a WU starts out so "fast" in CPU time, then at 50 or 53%, slows way..WAY.. down? Why, he asked with a chids need to "understand"!!!

The workunit is processed at several different resolutions from coarser to finer. It takes more calculations at the finer resolutions so the last part takes longer than the first part. Add the debugging code so that each individual calculation takes longer and the difference in processing speed between the begining and end of a workunit is really noticable.

There is a visual representation of it in the screen saver graphics. It tells you at what resolution it is currently working on, and gives you a graph showing it. The higher the resolution, the more complex the graph gets. From that, you can see how much harder sah has to work as things progress.

I have never used the "view graphics", Dohhh, guess I can for go "speed" for science once and a while, thanks for the obvious suggestion.

I saw 2 differences in the “Show Graphics“ in this version against the last “Beta” version.

1. In the beta version (I mean the version for Beta testers), when you were looking at the graphics, not the screensaver, the full graphics were moving in all directions. In this version, only the graphic of the signal detection is “wobbling” but not the full graphic windows. I find this more easier to look at it. BTW, if you hold the left mouse pressed, you can stop the wobbling of the signal graph part.
2. When zooming in or out in the “Beta” version using the right mouse, the full graphics inside the window was zooming in or out. In this version it is only the signal detection graphic that is zoomed in or out.

Happy crunching to everybody!

Greetings from Belgium.
