But what if, after 1.Rf3g3+, Black moves ...Kg8=f7, instead of the Rook block?

Kg8f7 is impossible because of the presence of the white queen in f6.

You're right. Bad typing, I meant Kg8-h7. ;)

Now I have it in five but my brain is boiling, so I can't promise that it's the good one :

1. Rf3g3+ ; Kh7
2. Qf6g6 + ; Kh8
3. Rh4xh5 + ; Re5xh5
4. Qg6xh5 + ; Qf8h6
5. Qh5xh6 ++

So, am I dreaming ?

1.Rf3g3+ ; Re5g5
2.Rg3xg5 + ; Kh7
3.Rh4xh5++

or :

1.Rf3g3+ ; Re5g5
2.Rg3xg5 + ; Qf8g7

Heh. A nice try...

No that's not it ! I must get tired ... The first move of the black is wrong ; it should go to h7, which delays the mate.

Sorry ! :)

The Morning Chess Problem is called "Cornerstone" because Black's g7pawn is the cornerstone under attack, but it's strongly defended. Can you find a way to break through?

Enjoy!

1. Qxg7 + ; Rxg7
2. Rd1d8 + ; Be8
3. Rd8xBf8 ++

Unless I'm wrong :)

Damned, she is very good!!!!!

Isn't she, though? LOL

And she puts on really fine quality chess problems too, which is a great help to me when I'm busy, and a wonderful addition to our content here.

Anne: if you read this post, please accept my GREAT AND SPECIAL THANKS TO YOU!!! for the wonderful contributions you've been making. It is very greatly appreciated by all of us here, I'm sure.

Oooh, thanks to you, for the appreciation, the compliments and your greetings ! :)))

I was wondering if I wasn't treading on your feet by posting problems here. Apparently, no. :)

I'll post some others then.

What's happened to your avatar ?

Extended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I prefer the extended notation as well, but this might be because that's the first notation I learned. I submit my solutions (when I have time to take a crack at the problems) in extended form with parenthetical comments like "forced" or "any other move leads to mate in 2".
No animals were harmed in the making of the above post... much.

Dear Champ,

It's an abridged system of notation. It consist of writing only where the pawn, piece arrives :

1. f6 ; e5

means :

1. white pawn f5-f6 ; black pawn e6-e5

etc.

Is that clearer ? :)

Yes madame. Sorry for stupid asking. lol
Now i can follow you. ;-)))

Noooo, it was not stupid ! :)

I find this notation system so practical, once you know the code, that I use it and never wonder if it's understandable for all.

As you may have noticed, I've changed my ways ... :)

Robert Brooke likes this abridged version too.

What do the rest of you guys think? Would you like us to start using the abridged version, or should we stick with the extended algebraic?

The abridged is quicker to write, the extended is easier to follow...

Which do you prefer?

The Late Night Boogie Woogie is called "What a Difference a Knight Makes".

Enjoy!

White to Move and Mate in three.

Well, in case Champ haven't solved it correctly, let's see...

1; Nc3-d5+
Ke7-e6 (forced)
2; Qf3-g4+
f7-f5 (forced)
3; Qg4xf5 mate

Checks Champ's solution... Oh, so close, but last black's move is invalid...

No, no the black's move is not invalid. When a pawn moves for the first time, it can do that. :)

Hmm, maybe wasn't clear, I meant to say that Champ's last black move isn't legal, and therefore the 3rd. white move in his solution isn't the right move. ;)

My solution on the other hand AFAIK doesn't have any errors...

Ding! Ding! Ding!

We have a winner!

Give the man a Cupie doll.

Congratulations, Ingleside!

Well done!
