Before I read your smallprint, Misfit, how sure are you that you've got it? I just can't see it.

there are a couple different ways with the same result as long as black doesnt move rook to f8. If that happens my attack doesnt work.

Since you stipulated your last 'if...is a failure' it means you haven't solved it.

Remember, in these exercises you have to play yourself (all of us are familiar with this exercise, hehe). Black seeks to avoid not just a checkmate but the FINAL checkmate that occurs within the number of moves specified. So without looking at your moves I can say that if what you wrote is correct then your solution isn't a solution.

I feel it's solved. White's first move is the same. You have two different choices depending on blacks move. Then checkmate.

white Queen to g6
black any move except rook to f8
white queen to f7, takes pawn, ++

White queen to g6
black rook to f8
white queen to h7, ++

So given this I'd say move queen to g6 and then see what black does and you'd have one of the two above checkmate senarios.

Well I have this mated in three. Haven't figured it out in two yet.

white rook to g8, +
black king go h6
white queen to h3, +
black queen to h4, block
white queen x queen at h4, ++

I think it is highly probable that beets means mate in 3. There is no possible mate in 2 as White is forced to check black. And if white does not check black then there's no mate in 2 here. It's a mate in 3 somehow. (I have not looked at Misfit's answers so don't accuse me of that . lol).

On any puzzle where White has to mate in 2 he has to check or in rare cases have black in a position where whatever he does is irrelevent. That is the rule. Never proven wrong in history of chess. I MAY be interpreting this all wrong, or the pieces are not set up exactly right.

I'll move back to that other problem.
