Alright, tough guy. Meet the Undefeated, Undisputed, Heavyweight Problem of the World!!! Well, let's take a look on this "controversial" problem, for starters, let's post my solution: 1; Rb1xb7+ 1a; Kd7-e8 => 2; Rb7-e7 mate 1b; Kd7-c8 => 2; Rb7-c7 mate (and some other variants) 1c; Bc6xb7 2; Qa7xb7+ Kd7-e8 (forced) 3; Be2-h5+ 3a; Ne5-f7 => 4; Qb7xf7 mate 3b; Ne5-g6 => 4; Qb7xf7 mate So, let's see on Robert Brooke's initial solution... White #1, ok. 1a and 1b, not mentioned, but since these gives mates-in-2, no problem. 1c, ok. #2, ok. White #3, ok. 3a, ok. 3b, not mentioned, but it doesn't matter for end-result if black takes 3a or 3b. #4, ok, this is the same regardless of 3a and 3b. So quite frankly, Beethoven, I don't see your point why the 3a-solution isn't accepted, since it doesn't matter where black moves his Knight, the final white move is exactly the same regardless. To get a horse killed or not at the same time the king is dead doesn't really matter, you've lost anyway. "I make so many mistakes. But then just think of all the mistakes I don't make, although I might." |

Mainly because it's a dispute over the SAME piece that black has to move in either case and it is the SAME square that White is going to move the queen to mate black. ie it makes no difference. lolYes, I can see the difference because black can see that he has to move the knight and he's doomed to lose when white moves regardless of where he puts it. Neener neener neener. The difference is: that in solving a problem you're supposed to assume that the oponent makes the most intellignet moves possible in the circumstances. Here's the TrainingBot Solution for "All Along the Watchtower". See Black's 3rd move? "Ng6". But enough said about this tonight. Let's both take an honest look at this in the morning. If I think you're right tomorrow morning, I'll say so. ;) Good Luck with "Take A Letter Maria". |

You're like a dog with a bone. LOL Black is always doomed to lose in these problems. He's like the bull in the bullfight, right? But moving to g6 is an intelligent (though ill-fated) block. Even if ultimately ineffective, it at least "distracts" from the mating square. White has to "think further" to sidestep the block and find the mating square. (INTELLIGENT) On the other hand: f7 not only is not an effective block, it actually draws attention to and "invites" the mating move. (STOOPID) INTELLIGENT...STOOPID What's the inevitable death of the bull got to do with it? |

Beethoven, you're evil. I don't care if Misfit gets a n honorable mention or not. I cited 2 precedents. One mine, one his. You can't change the rules midgame. Myproblem is with you not accepting my first solution as legitimate, as it clearly is legitimate. You only accepted my second solution which differed from the first by one move (actually 1/2 of a move). I think you'd make a good mod. Power goes to your head. lol No more on this tonight, please. If you can't see the difference between putting a piece where it's sure to be captured and putting that piece where it's a reasonable attempt at a block (and can't be captured)...then: Take two aspirin and call me in the morning. |
