I got Jim Kirk and Jim Morrison on my original list, gents.

I did miss Doohan - the coolest of the Trek actors (not characters) along with Nemoy - let's make him an honorary Jim. Leonard Jim Nemoy or Jim Spock. Scotty's affinity to Scotch whiskey makes him one of my favorites.

Yes, I left Jimmy Carter out intentionally.

James (Jim) Brown is very worthy too, of course. Though he wasn't personally cool, just professionally cool. He did some nasty things to women that were very uncool. Spousal abuse and threatening pedestrians on the street with guns puts him in the bad area. As far as his music goes, he's definitely in the gang.

Lovell is one of the charter members of the cool Jims club. Talk about an amazing dude. He admires me very much.

There have to be more we've missed.

I knew there'd be many that were missed at first. There are just oo many excellent Jims.

Jim Croce's was:

You don't tug on Superman's cape
You don't spit into the wind
You don't pull the mask off the ol' Lone Ranger
And you don't mess around with Jim.

I think you're mixing that together with "Big Bad John" by Johnny Cash which had something like:

Big John
Big Bad John
Big John

Good catch, though. "Time In a Bottle" is one of the great love songs of this century, in my opinion. I can't think of too many people who have been in love that don't wish they had been the one to write the words:

If I could save time in a bottle,
The first thing that I'd like to do
Is to save every day till eternity passes away,
Just to spend them with you

If I could make days last forever,
If words could make wishes come true
I'd save every day like a treasure and then,
Again, I would spend them with you

But there never seems to be enough time,
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I've looked around enough to know,
You're the one I want to go
Through time with.

If I had a box just for wishes,
And dreams that had never come true
The box would be empty,
Except for the memory
Of how they were answered by you.

But there never seems to be enough time,
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I've looked around enough to know,
You're the one I want to go
Through time with.

You may not have had the guts to be sentimantal or honest enough to say stuff like this, but if you never felt them in your deepest gut, you've never really been in love, despite what you may have told yourself.

I knew I was talking about two different songs. Just mentioning anouther song with Jim in it. Some people did think that the title of Croce's song was You don't tug on Superman's cape' but it was:
YOU DON'T MESS AROUND WITH JIM
Words and music by Jim Croce

Uptown's got its hustlers
The Bowry's got its bums
Forty-second street's got Big Jim Walker
He's a pool-shootin' son of a gun
Well he's big and dumb as a man can come
But he's stronger than a country hoss
And when the bad folks all get together at night
You know they all call Big Jim "boss"
(Just because ...)
(They say ...)

CHORUS:
You don't tug on Superman's cape
You don't spit into the wind
You don't pull the mask of the old Lone Ranger
And you don't mess around with Jim
(Ba-doo-da-doo-doo doo-doo-doo-doo doot)

Well out of South Alabama come a country boy
He said I'm lookin' for a man named Jim
I am a pool-shootin' boy, my name is Willie McCoy
But back home they call me Slim
He said I'm lookin' for the king of forty-second street
He's drivin' a drop-top Cadillac
And last week he took all my money, and it may sound funny
But I come to get my money back

(And everybody say, hey Jack -- don't you know that...)
(CHORUS)

Well a hush fell over the pool room
When Jimmy come boppin' in off the street
And when the cuttin' was done, the only part that wasn't bloody
Was the soles of the big man's feet
He was cut in 'bout a hundred places
And he was shot in a couple more
And you better believe they sung a different kind of story
When Big Jim hit the floor
(And now they say)

You don't tug on Superman's cape
You don't spit into the wind
You don't pull the mask of the old Lone Ranger
And you don't mess around with Slim

2 years of chorus, this song, the Carpenter's "Top of the World", and Cat Steven's "Morning Has Broken" ...

Some things I'll forget, but I'll never forget the words to these songs...

You are right there Jim

Ah. You said "Don't mess around with Jim (Croce). Big Jim (John), big bad Jim (John) (Cash)" That's where I thought the mix came from. See what I mean?

You don't mess around with Jim, Big Jim, big bad Jim.....

None the less, both Jim Croce and Big Bad Jim belong on the list.

More to come I hope.

Not by Johnny but by Jimmy Dean of breakfast sausage fame.

Black Oak Arkansas-"Jim Dandy"

Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Go, Jim Dandy! Go, Jim Dandy!

I was sitting on a mountain top.
30,000 feet to drop.
Tied me on a runaway horse
Uh huh, that's right, of course.
Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Go, Jim Dandy! Go, Jim Dandy!

One day, I met a girl named Sue.
She was feeling kind of blue.
I'm Dandy, the kind of guy
Who can't stand to see a little girl cry.
Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Go, Jim Dandy! Go, Jim Dandy!

Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Go, Jim Dandy! Gooooooo!

I was riding on a submarine
Got a message from my mermaid queen.
She was hanging on a fishing line.
Mr. Dandy didn't waste no time!
Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Go, Jim Dandy! Go, Jim Dandy!

Once upon a time, I went to Maine.
Got a ticket on a DC plane.
Mr. Dandy didn't need no chute!
I was high and ready to boot!
Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Go, Jim Dandy! Go, Jim Dandy!

Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Go, Jim Dandy! Go, Jim Dandy!

PROUD TO BE TFFE!

Jim, sooner or later it works out so that some of us have rational and calm debates on deeper subjects.

Holy cow, I walked out to the porch and immediately thought of:

Jim (James) Mason
Jim Bowie (please pronounce it "Boo-ee" not "Bow-ee") - one of the valiant to give their lives at the Alamo.

You take one of his namesake knifes into the wood and you'll need little else but a fishing line and hook, a fork, a towel (Douglas Adams took this from woodsmen not the other way around), a length of rope, a compass and a flint. With the knife and the flint you can fashion the others if you have training.

For goodness sake, how could I forget the great great Jim Thorpe??
One of the most outstanding athletes and icons of the value of equal rights of the last century???

I saw something on TV today about Jim Garner - the great Maverick of 50's TV and the 90's movie (played by Mel Gibson) and Jim Rockford of "The Rockford Files". Two very similar characters: "I don't want trouble, but God help you if you bring it."

Maybe Garner is one of the greatest - a great Jim who played a great Jim.

"Hand that man a double whiskey on me, bartender!"

There must be more.

I get your point Robert but the "Cafe" atmosphere seems to "thirst" for the inane ramblings of two friends sipping on a cup of joe. The descusions will creap in but one must also relax and enjoy life.

That's four and now seven words - any advance?

Please look him up in your favourite search engine (with James twice) - he's another one.
