Agreed, and glad your your team got some press in the WSJ. Maybe if the movie channels would run more "The Black Hole", "Event Horizon", "The Band Played On", etc instead of beating "Contact" to death more people would give the other projects a try! :-) Alinator |

Meanwhile, the development of Boinc continues at a steady pace. In case those 'mud slinging detractors' haven't noticed, s@h directly benefits from those developments. Also note that the Wall Street Journal journalist was working his crude journalese to deliberately stir up a little controversy for his article. (Looks like doggy-doos on this forum has licked up to that just like a nice little poodle should, wuff!... Good giggle :-) ) Happy crunchin', Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

I agree with Kevint, even though the article had a "reporters" twist, it is still good for distributed computing as a whole. The only thing I regret is that he failed to take notice of the fact that many of us crunch for multiple projects. |

The only thing I regret is that he failed to take notice of the fact that many of us crunch for multiple projects. Well, that and he misidentified the true founder of our team. http://www.setiusa.net |

Since others brought my name into this discussion, I feel that it's proper to reply. Ok, so it seems Dr Dave indicated that he no longer crunches for Seti, but crunches for what may be CPDN, or the BBC offshoot. (the project was not named in the WSJ article, so all any of can do is a "best guess") In the interview about Rosetta (may still be linked from the Rosetta site to a Seattle paper)), Dr Dave indicated that Rosetta was setting the standard for keeping crunchers happy. Dr Dave is getting no NSF funding for Seti, but only for BOINC. The Seti/Boinc donation effort had tapered off. It's total is about 1/3 of what's needed for the year, and while there's talk about the next "push" or "drive", I've seen nothing about when of if that might happen, and it's almost July. IMHO, Dr Dave is looking at who will pay his bills, and right now, it's Boinc and not Seti. Unless Seti get's about $500,000 in donations, Seti will be over, and IMHO, the donations won't happen. I think crunchers need to take a hard look at what's been said in the article, and in other articles, about the long terms hope for seti/boinc. Make your own conclusions, but I suggest you just step back and see it and not be compasionate about what you "hope" will happen. |

We are making our own conclusions, it just happens that they do not agree with yours. And there is nothing wrong with being compassionate about what we enjoy. |

Dogbytes, you're the new AZ Woody: a big loudmouth who revels in spreading discontent and hate. Lmao Matt. Wow..you are truly, TRULY the reason why I stay away from the Seti.MB's. The way I see it...you're the one that brought the discontent. Your response was unfounded and the only reason for you to post was what you stated yourself...you are who you accuse others of being and cannot live w/o the discontent. You took a situation and turned into something it's not. Heh. Hmm..I replied to this crap? Have a nice day their living in your own world bud. -dae |

I'm glad you speak for "we". The question is, does the rest of "we" agree? Are you one of these folks that assumes that "he" speaks for "we"? Heck, you got a published story in the WSJ, were Dr Dave isn't crunching for Seti anymore. Is he part of "we"? |

Dogbytes, you're the new AZ Woody: a big loudmouth who revels in spreading discontent and hate. You're pretty dim, aren't you? Leave it to SETI.USA to act like a wolfpack - when one loser is attacked then others come to his aid. It's embarassing. Look at your sigs and attitude. You act like the WORST American stereotype - chest thumping patriotism bordering on jingoism. It's not good-natured competition. It's AMERICA IS THE BEST - NO DEBATE - WE WILL DESTROY YOU AND WIN AT ALL COSTS. Thus the big SETI.USA exodus (temporary) when they could no longer catch up to the top teams under the new RAC situation. ----- |

Aaww come on, can't we all just get along? /grin LoL, this thread contains some good examples of how people insist on taking the art of futile achievements to a new level. Just shut the hell up and crunch some numbers for science, or don't. We don't care. Sheesh. /Mav We have lingered long enough on the shores of the cosmic ocean. azwoody has joined MattDavis in my ignore list. Peace has returned!! :) Why to people need to post when they choose to ignore someone? As if anyone really cares! Oh wait, a topic of this thread is that it seems Dr Dave has ignored crunching for Seti! I guess that's a bigger issue than not reading my posts! People, please, if anything, just step back and try to read the signs of what's happening with this project, and not just attack/ignore the messanger! |
