Message 360617 - Posted: 9 Jul 2006, 0:11:26 UTC - in response to Message 360614.

I intentionally did not include results using Crunch3rs binary because I did not distribute it to anyone. Some people did bench with it anyway, I also did myself. These results will stay private, though Crunch3r can have them if he wants to.

Regards,
Simon.

Never ran crunchers but things are looking better...What a good day, My machine is quieter, cooler and running seti faster and I decided to have a beer to celebrate. Prost!!!

Are there any special .xml files we need to use with your app?

There will be several versions you can download -

SSE (P3/Athlon XP)
SSE2-generic (Athlon 64/Turion)
SSE2-P4 (P4-only)

Um... Both my Coppermine P3's report by CPU-Z supporting SSE2, and happily ran SETI/Einstein aftermarket aps designated as SSE2, I think.

Argh--I was wrong. My Coppermine P3's indeed report supporting SSE, and not SSE2, and I did not figure out that I had remembered this wrong until I downloaded Simon's AMD/Intel SSE2 code, and it very promptly bombed. I hope others rely on CPU-Z and not on my fallacious post.

I abase myself.

Misfit,

there is a customized app_info.xml included with each package. All you need to do is copy all files in the directory it makes into BOINC\\projects\\setiathome.berkeley.edu.

All this is explained in Instructions.txt, which is also included in each archive.

archae86, I was wondering what kind of special P3 you had ;o)

Simon.

Yeah,

I thought the standard icon was a bit boring, myself. The icon is the same I'm using for my site.

I tested on XP32 and 64, and although it is not a real 64-bit binary, it runs on 64 fine (and seems marginally quicker than on XP32).

Regards,
Simon.

So to be the Idiot...Can I download the new app and run the .exe on a new machine or do I download the client and set it up first and then follow the instructions?

On a new machine, first download BOINC. Let it download the standard client and some WUs. Then stop it and install the optimized application. Restart it, you're off.

It will resume your WUs for you (the app_info.xml is set up for versions 5.12 through 5.15).

Regards,
Simon.

Why are so many posts suddenly missing from this thread? Look at the first post, then the next few - a whole week was deleted!

I read the whole thread earlier today, so I know thost posts exist - also, they're in Google cache. Why are they suddenly gone?

What topic being discussed was so unsavory so as to have someone cover it up?

Thank you Simon. :-)

Also for your kind thoughts about donating to Seti what you might not spend yourself for your expenses.

And yes, it works fine, I'll let you know about the times as soon I have some results.

You even did a generic MMX for my lowly K6-2!

Fantastic!

Over and above is what you've done.

Great job!!!

Ni!

I installed the SSE2 client on my windows dual core AMD. I stopped BOINC, extracted the files to the folder and then restarted BOINC. Einstein was running so I suspeded it to force it to run and the one seti work unit in process reset its progress to 0% but the CPU time kept counting. When I did this in linux your client picked up where the other one had left off. Not a huge surprise or problem... just thought I would report it.

Could we have a new thread stickied?? so that people can post about the new optimised app this post is pretty massive and I certainly wouldn't think of reporting anything into this thread about the new apps
