I can't help it, but to me the whole concept of suing a farmer for growing his own seeds is nothing but a perversion.

Good arguement Hans, but like it or not, seeds are a patented commodity. What would you do if you spent millions on developing seeds, patented them, then had someone reproduce them without paying you a phennig.

It's just like people who pirate copywrited materials on the internet, same thing.

I guess we'll have "open source" genetic codes in the near future.

There are many smart people in the poor countries that can't afford Monsantos prices.

P.S: Sorry, I can't discuss copyright violations without breaking some of the formum rules :o)

No one is suing them for using their own seeds, that's the point. They are more than welcome to keep using the same seeds they always have.

They get sued for using Monsanto's seeds.

Cordially,
Rush

AFAIK the farmers are not allowed to use their own crops for next year's seed.
They have to buy new seeds from Monsanto each year.

Monsanto's patented seeds...Yes it may seem strange...But using the seeds produced by the previous year's crop is considered to be stealing from Monsanto...Because who would ever buy more once they got the first crop in...Monsanto spent big money to develop those seeds...And that product development has to be profitable...Or it won't happen...At least in today's agricultural economy.

That's the point. They agree in advance not to use them.

They are welcome to use their old seed, but they recognize the value of the Monsanto product.
