Oh no! People won't take a good idea because it came from me!

They're dying in the desert but won't take the water I offer!

It's a good idea. You can take it and run with it if you want. You can ignore it if you want. No skin off my nose :)

A lot of you think Seti credits are the primary goal in life. While I think that is... adorable... maybe demanding UCB to cater to you isn't the answer.

Why not get a private website, like a current stats site, or a new one, have races? For example, what I have in mind is sort of like heats in a swimming meet. The site will start recording stats at midnight on June 15th (for example), and the competition will be one month long. At the end of that you can see who the fastest is, or who accumulated the most credits [edit: over the course of that month alone]. That way people get their competition without trying to ruin the totals most people like me have worked hard to build.

When 1 month is over, a new one can start, etc. etc. Credit mongers can then try to work their way up the charts [edit: as they try and get more and more credits over each heat].

You know Matt, the truth is that might have been an idea many would be willing to buy into. The problem is that you and your flair for grating on ones nerves will most probably keep people from doing so. Your wording of the post itself keeps me from even wanting to try to be positive about it.

Someone would have to code something to keep track of stats from midnight one day to midnight a month later, but I can't imagine that would be too hard.

Excellent idea Matt,
As a matter of fact I have a small site myself that I would be willing to use to test your idea. We could have a "leaderboard" where every week or month or so we could post the current "winners" and I think we could work up some sort of "track record" where you get say 10 "points" for placing first that week/month, 9 points for second, and so on to reward the top ten each week/month.
Of course this site is on my own computer with a DSL connection to the net but I'm willing to use it until bandwidth becomes a problem! By that time we might have enough interested in it to chip in and get a better site. All we would have to do then is just transfer the pages to the new site.
Just a suggestion, but I like your idea.
Jim
