Just curious, what kind of machine is it?

I am not sure, it does not have a name on the outside.

What was the link to download Cruncher again?

And when we run it, is there any graphical image of some kind of progress bar for each work units worked on?

Are we going to be in trouble for running any old version type of Cruncher? Or is there a problem running an older version Cruncher??

The reason I ask is because I've concluded that was the standard BOINC app crashing one of my computers. Even after reinstallation. I don't know why, but I'm throwing a wet towel at this one man at his locker as I yell "What's that smell?"

Crunch3r has removed the program from his site. www.marisan.nl/seti has also removed it. BUT they do have a note up as of June 11th "PEOPLE ARE WORKING ON NEW OPTIMIZED APPLICATIONS (June 11th, 2006)"

One of the first things all optimizers have done is to compile without the graphics. That eliminates a fair amount of code.

If a particular version is required, the project will set that as a minimum. For now there may be no minimum set, just any setiathome_enhanced application.

I presume you meant standard science app, if you think BOINC is the problem you might try the Trux version...

Not all: unless I'm hallucinating, or failed to install it somehow, Alex Kan’s current PPC app still has the graphics.

Thanks for the correction. I should have included an AFAIK.

This so called "strike" is futile.

And I run off now, before I'm assimilated ;) into human stupidity.

The strike ended on Sunday. Some have returned, but many have not. It is each person's choice. The purpose of the strike was to illuminate the concerns of those who wished to continue crunching SETI, but felt there were important issues that needed to be addressed by Berkeley. All of these people were committed to the project, but many have found the lack of response to the issues disheartening. If people just didn't care about SETI, they would just leave without trying to get problems addressed. At least the strikers were willing to take action to get their voices heard, and then willing to wait a little longer for resolutions.

Unfortunately, the resolutions are not coming as many hoped.

Some good and some bad... depends on how one looks at it.
The sky can be dark or it can be bright. Depends when and
what perspective. Something can taste good, but it depends
on who is tasting...

Life is a circle. What comes around, goes around.
For every beginning, there's an end.

For every move, there's a counter move. I usually
hope the counter move by people for me is a tip. LOL
