Just a little correction, Boinc versions prior to 5.2.6 do not read the "fpops" results so they still use the "benchmarks" to claim credit, causing them to report widely varying and excessivee amounts of credits. Of course the quorum usually catches this and will kick out the exaggerated credit claim. Yes, my mistake. I left out "occasionally". Too many things going on today! Hahe. However from the limited number of wu's that I've checked, it seems that *most* of them have been on the high side, although they have been widely varying in amount claimed. Very well put. The Seti application *reports* both cpu time *and* fpops, however the older Boinc clients don't know what to do with the fpops figure so it just uses the cpu time and benchmarks to calculate credits the same as the earlier applications. Maybe Berkeley could just not include them in the quorum of results and just give them what the newer clients decide is the right amount of credits. Don't orphan them, just don't let a version older than 5.2.6 be a part of the initial 3. |

That would take a little programming on the validator's side, but I don't see why it couldn't be done. However would it be worth the trouble of reprogramming the validators just for the specific times when two old apps happen to be in the quorum? I have seen this mentioned several times, but I wonder just how often it really happens. Jim Some people plan their life out and look back at the wealth they've had. I am guessing often enough for people to complain! Hey Jim, if you were to get some mb's in the mail what would you do with them? They would include cpus but nothing else. Of course the books would be included. I have a couple that need a good home. They are AMD Duron 1400's but the cpu is soldered on. They are just sitting on a shel right now and worked fine when I replaced them. They are just too slow for my ranch. If I kept everything I would have to expand to another set of shelves, I am at 2 sets now and could easily do 3 if I took all the machines off the floor. I have been replacing mb's with faster ones so the costs stay down. All the other parts are mostly compatable, memory being the exception. |

Well to be honest with you, if everything were compatable with the one I''m running I'd switch one of them for the one I'm running right now, Then I would start checking with buddies of mine for extra pwr supplies, hd's, memory and stuff to try to get the others online for crunching. And if that didn't work I might be able to scrape up enough doing odd jobs to check out hamfests and flea markets for the stuff I would need to get them going. I've managed to get the equipment to install a 16 port hub in a lan so I wouldn't need a big hd, just a few meg, enough to get booted, then mount the rest of my file system from this comp. I once installed a minimal Linux text based installation with networking on a computer that had just two 40mb hds! And that was a standalone comp. If I used remote file systems I could have done it in less than 5mb! Jim Some people plan their life out and look back at the wealth they've had. Hi Mikey, I just talked to a friend last night (his name's Mikey too!) and he says he'll help me get the memory etc. He says that's no problem, and he will help with cases, etc. also. BTW, I can pay for shipping on these, but you will need to let me know how much so I can send you a money order and it will have to be after the first of the month. (On disability). If you are RICH RICH RICH, I have a several hundred pound server I can let you have. It is a quad xenon 550mhz server that the USGovernment used to own. I got it free and it crunches fine. It is here: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=2268008 But it IS a basement warmer and an energy HOG! Shipping would be OUTRAGEOUS! I am considering putting it on ebay for local pickup ONLY. |

Just curious, what kind of machine is it? Fear will keep the local systems in line. Fear of this battle station. - Grand Moff Tarkin |

Any more of this "you said" ... "no, you said" 'communication' and this whole thing will never go away. I say, that sometimes I get a good laugh here in a way. However, some people said that I said things in a way I did not say. But I agree that let's start today. There must be a way that we can come together some day, live happily, post nicely, and be okay. That's what I say. The empire must pay! LOL just kidding, okay? I must now swift away. Off to work, down the bay. At night, without a sun ray Sad as it may that everynight is my work day. But I'll be okay. Have a good night and a good day! |

Sure Mikey Never turn down boards. I either recycle them into the farm, or recycle them into a free or very low cost system for some family that does not own a computer at all. Beach Bums Current Stats: Come Join us at Hawaiian Beach Bums |

I'll guarantee you it'll be claimed by someone within an hour, tops. There won't be any humongous shipping cost, because the person getting it from you will be getting it from you directly and taking it home in their own transportation. Mark |

Good luck for Crunc3r! I am running wu in cache but future time on seti wu will be drastically reduced as I have now attached to several other projects instead of just Seti |

Hey Mikey No, I Have been looking and it is a no name, at least on the outside, big honking thing with 4 casters. It has quad xeon 550mhz processors and 12 18gig scsi hard drives. It even has a Sony tape drive in it. The case ahs a serial number on it though: Z01013075. It was assembled in the US. I want to say it was made by Aspen Systems but am not sure. |
