I want them to see my green star. I want them to know that a lot of those protesting have donated money to the project! Lack of work request might not be as obvious as a website/forum with green stars going away. Imagine if you logged on to Seti on monday, and there were no green stars. It would show folks were unhappy. Well, there would be one green star, and that be Mattdavis. |

My freaking God. Get over it. You have no life and dont even deserve to be crunching for Seti. You obviously forgot the point of this project. The point is the science. Cruch3r left and it was his decision. The whole cheating thing is ridiculous in itself. Its for a F@$king credit. What does having credit make people feel special or something. Ya there nice to have as a measure of how much youve done but its still just a credit. It doesnt really matter. What matters is the science. Yea I liked Crunch3r too, hes pretty cool and all making those optimized apps and helping all of us at Seti but if he wants to leave its his decision. Stop being such a drama queen and shutup because organizing strikes is only hurting this project. I love the way some people complain about people who work their butts off to keep seti running. Real nice. Show some respect. I just love general posts that were not connected to anyone. Really provides a basis for rants! |

It's about time! Count me in, Daniel. I'll follow the guidelines of my team, SETI.USA and start at 00:00 UTC 6/5/06 (unless amended by the team). Ah, I can see it now, more naysaying by the Zero Club. Bring it on... |

Real nice. Show some respect. Since it is designed to get the attention of everyone in this project, including it's directors AND volunteers, it is obviously NOT a stupid thing, as it is working. It got YOUR attention, didn't it? Imagine the attention the coming week's stats are going to get. Not much work will get done, this coming week, I think... Regards, Daniel. |

Lack of work request might not be as obvious as a website/forum with green stars going away.Damn! I cannot believe I'm about to say this, but.... You made a post in the ".... conspiracy" thread that, uh, er, ahem, I agreed with. There, I said it, got it out, feel better............ I really doubt that the devs are going to spend time on the boards looking for a lack of little green stars. They will, however, be checking the science stats. I read, this morning, that the active crunching has already dropped by about 30%.... (-:< CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. I'll have to relay this to the PC Perspective Killer Frogs Seti Team. It will be good to have the Killer Frogs on strike with us! The more teams participating in this, the stronger the message will be! http://www.setiusa.net |

The developers might not notice, but the bean counters (or those with connections to the bean counters) will. And it will also make a point to others posting here. "Hey, only a couple people with 'green stars' are still here. What happened?" Imagine if the seti admin comes into work on monday and finds a boatload of emails requestinting that their "green star" be turned off in support of the boycott. I'm sure that message would make it top Dr Dave much faster than a downfall in the amount of work requested. |

It sounds like it's your intention to damage the SETI@home project and harass the project scientists. |

A/C, I agree with you on that. The whole issue is really stupid and childish, all brought upon by some jackass who doesn't have the testicular fortitude to admit he jumped the gun and then won't admit he was wrong, even though there is a marked fallout. So what? Credit is credit. Science is science and the more people boycott over egos, the more damage is done to the ability of SETI to crunch and finetune the application. The Project Scientists could give a damn about this whole thing, even if there were only 2 people left. |

No way! Gosh, it's called making a statement to the project. If letting a project know how the most valuable resourse to that project feels is considered "harasssment", I guess the UCB folks souldn't be asking for money! The admins are not the "scientists". They are minimum wage guys that play in bands on the weekends! No science, even in the SETI sense, would be impacted. |

Seems to me if SETI had remained an independent project instead of joining BOINC in the first place, as many, if not the vast majority of their users wanted, then none of this would be taking place anyway. Although I agree that the boycott is going to hurt SETI, I think it's about time they opened their eyes......and sometimes it takes a kick in the groin to make that happen. |

I'll have to relay this to the PC Perspective Killer Frogs Seti Team. I am a member of TFFE, our entire team census for all projects is 170 users. Our little team was 32nd in Seti until fairly recently, but most of our Seti crunchers have moved to other projects, mainly Einstein. There was no movement or discussion on our team board to drop Seti, but our members have been slowly withdrawing until now, we are doing very little Seti work. We're just fading away so there's no need to strike...we're already for the most part gone. P.S. My own RAC used to be over 10,800. Account frozen... |

I think that new SETI/BOINC is not stable and enhanced is not better. In theese months we have seen a lot of communication and database problems. I have seen a lot of changing and now for enhanced I have seen 5.12, 5.15 and now 5.19. So I'm sure that science is GOOD but management is BAD. So it's good if someone complains or strikes. I'm very sorry that this bad managament has involved (involuntarily) crunch3r. But perhaps the strike it's not necessary, so long. Look alt http://www.teamocuk.com/cprojectpart.php?p=SAH We are loosing active partecipants and new partecipants are now 1/3 then two months ago. Managers must think, reflect and react. Hi ponbiki. I think that if they give in to these kind of strikes/boycots than they'll just happen again over some other issue that comes up. The BOINC application that's used to measure credits might not be totally ideal, but it still does what it's primarily meant to do: analysis of data gathered by Arecibo. The credit system that was added with BOINC offers a way of calculating the work that's done as well as adding a little competition, which is fine, but that's an added luxury that's not the reason for SETI in the first place. BOINC is still going to do its job and people will still get credits. So yeah, I think you're right when you say this whole issue is stupid and childish. |

But what's the statement? That it's not enough to just volunteer computer time to search for ET, and that the application isn't measuring WU crunching perfectly? And that if Crunch3r decides to leave because of the thing mmciastro started (which was kinda heavy handed) there has to be a strike? I mean it sounds like we're dock workers that didn't get paid or something. |

{tone:cheerful} The purpose behind Seti enhanced is to slow down the amount of work the servers have to do. With all the people stopping work for Seti it looks like it is very successful. And using an optimized app is going in the wrong direction anyway. Keep up the good work. David Stites Pullman, WA USA |
