Yes, his home page had his farewell message. I see he is still kind enough to offer his apps.

I guess he emigrated to E@H.

Make it so...

I think everyone who uses Crunch's app (or just thinks he has been wronged) should join the boycott. As soon as I get home from work, I'm stopping all new work.

I will not process again until things have been made right for Crunch.

I'm with you, where can I sign? ( sorry for my english )

I have stopped all my computers, 5 brand new Pentium D PCs until Crunch3r have his appologies, coz him, I came back after some years on this project because the speed of its optimized programs.

now Seti@home have less 5.000 dairy points from my computers,

I'm going to chunch for E@H as crunch3r did!

Best Regards!

His site now redirects to Einstein@home. And who is UOTD? Why it's Akosf! The very person who was deservedly rewarded with a job! Perhaps it's time for Crunch3r to hook up with the Akosf and the Einstein team.

What's amazing to me is the big war about credits when the real issue of importance are all the great time saving optimized apps.

Misfit, don't misunderstand me. I encouraged the use of Optimized Application with old seti. I also encourage the use of optimized apps with SE. On the old Seti, claimed credit was determined by the Boinc Daemon, on the new SE it's determined by the Application. As long as the multiplier is 3.35 (or whatever Eric determines is fair across all projects)I have NO problem with optimized apps with SE. I even thought of using them myself.

Crunch3r probbly quit, because he made it pretty obvious that he was unhappy with the real optimisers of the Seti code who had made their code and ideas available to Eric Korpela for the enhanced application. Because this meant that his optimised applications would not give the large boost to credit gained.

This happened several moths ago, and he was put in his place then, this thread as far as I can see, has also been pulled.

If the official enhanced code had not been optimised, and my thanks to all those that enabled it, then on a P4 3.x GHz we would have been looking, on average, at 30+ hours per unit. Not the 4 to 5 hours now achieved.

When enhanced was released here, it was version 5.12, where the multiplication factor in the credits calculation is 3.25. But Crunched used and released here a version 5.11 with a multiplication factor of 7.

Crunch3r was the one person who by making and releasing optimised enhanced applications should have been aware of the multiplication factor, and should have ensured as far as possible that this version was not released and used here on the main Seti site. This he failed to do. He even had version 5.11 on his site long after a warning had been given to people who overclaimed using fpops credit calculation.

Why was 5.11 released here and used by Crunch3r on this site?

The optimisation achieved, by Crunch3r, on enhanced, as far as I can gather, is to remove the graphics code and use the Intel compiler.

So if anybody has legal access to or owns a copy of the Intel compiler can probably make optimised applications, just a well as Crunch3r. Just make sure you follow the rules if you release it and include the Authors, Copying, Copyright and Readme files as required by Seti. Something that Crunch3r had to be reminded of several times.

So was Tony's question, possibly a bit strong, justified?

I would probably say yes.

Andy

Urrghhh.

Once again:

All seti download sites have various older and newer versions available for download.
This is quite usual and doesn't imply zilch!

Those "important" files missing from Crunch3r's first ZIPs have been aptly called "crap" by Tony in one of his posts.

Regards Hans
