This is the thread, but it is hidden. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=31050 Fear will keep the local systems in line. Fear of this battle station. - Grand Moff Tarkin |

anyone who has a somewhat unbiased view able to summerize it for those of us who missed the hoopla. I'm afraid you're going to be out of luck there. Grant Darwin NT |

Our team (SETI.USA) have been organizing a "work stoppage" (suspend network activity), but had decided to wait to see if the developers/admin here at Seti were going to take any action to our requests. But now in the development of Crunch3r leaving Seti, our team leaders are now considering moving foward to show our disappointment with the latest developments here. It is certaily a shame to see such a respected and valuable asset to the project (seti..and Boinc) be alienated enough to leave the project altogether. This is truly a sad day for DC.... Thanks Crunch3r for everything you have done!! |

If it is the one I am thinking about, Crunch was accused of cheating because one of his machines claimed something like 60 credits. That was what, 2 or 3 weeks ago? It may have contributed to his decision, but considering he's only just left i doubt it was the main reason. Grant Darwin NT |

I assumed that it was as a result of email exchanges following the event or maybe that another thread had errupted and was hidden. Those are only assumptions. Our team (SETI.USA) have been organizing a "work stoppage" (suspend network activity), but had decided to wait to see if the developers/admin here at Seti were going to take any action to our requests. What requests? In most of the threads i've read i've only seen demands & thinly veiled attempts at blackmail. "Do what we want or we leave" is not a request. The project staff have said waht's happening on several occasions. They are & will continue to monitor the credit situation over the next month or so to see just what is acutally happening with regards to the official & optimised applications & the granting of credit. Once they have the data they will then decide if anything needs to be done, and if so what. However most their efforts at the present time are into sorting out the occasional hang when noisy work units are encountered. Grant Darwin NT |

I believe also a thread of his was deleted. I followed his comments to his website, which I had saved and read the whole take. Rather disturbing :( |

I've read all the threads I could locate and still have no idea what happened... anyone who has a somewhat unbiased view able to summerize it for those of us who missed the hoopla. I guess I'm lost too, Skip. I've scoured the board myself and have found nothing to suggest that Crunch3r was wronged or insulted by any member of the Berkeley staff. In fact, I was under the impression that Crunch3r's work at the Beta site helping to develop the Enhanced application was highly appreciated by everyone concerned. If his leaving is due to the recent discussion with mmciastro in the infamous deleted thread, then that is between those two I should think, and any comments made there should not be construed as coming from the actual staff. Anyone can read the remarks made between mmciastro and crunch3r simply by looking through their message histories. Those are not deleted when a thread is deleted. Dig |

I assumed that it was as a result of email exchanges following the event or maybe that another thread had errupted and was hidden. Those are only assumptions. My assumption as well, but not knowing of them makes it impossible to even begin to guess at what's going on with any accuracy. And of course all the speculation & carry on just adds to the ever increasing levels of hysteria. It's disappointing that Crunch3r & others have left. But what's even more diasappointing is the behaviour & attitudes of many of those that remain & continue to make demands for this that & the other left right & centre. EDIT- attempted to make my post a bit clearer. Grant Darwin NT |

What you are describing is a result of the inital requests for a response from developers/admin that were then turned into attack (being a credit monger is less than honorable...though a valid reason to volunteer to seti). I do agree that the subseqent posts certainly became "heated" and a lot was said out of anger...some people are unhappy about the situation, and indeed they are entitled to be unhappy from their perspective. But to return to the topic..it will no longer be the same w/Crunch3r and others absence from the project. |

If it is the one I am thinking about, Crunch was accused of cheating because one of his machines claimed something like 60 credits. Please leave them as assumptions and don't fan the flames on here any further. I deleted (hid) mmciastro's thread at that time. As it was flamebaiting and the contents of it were flame worthy and hate mongering. No other threads on here have been deleted (hidden) by me since that time. |

I have disabled my machines, and they will remain that way for the next week. I am doing this to protest the treatment of Crunch3r by some here, but also protesting the lack of concern shown in correcting the deficiencies in SETI Enhanced (the new credit system being just one of those issues). This will also give me some time to try other projects. http://www.setiusa.net |

If you want to see what was written go to mmciastro ID at top of message boards and look at his message board posts from 12 days ago. Thats what started a lot of it. |

I just dropped SETI in protest, seriously don't give people crap that volunteer their time and effort to help you... This project would be dead without helpers, of which we all are... Human Stupidity Is Infinite... |

Yes, his home page had his farewell message. I see he is still kind enough to offer his apps. I guess he emigrated to E@H. |

If it is the one I am thinking about, Crunch was accused of cheating because one of his machines claimed something like 60 credits. Ageless, I agreed with the reason for removing the thread. I was only saying that it was no longer visible and that it was possible that there was more to the story. Fear will keep the local systems in line. Fear of this battle station. - Grand Moff Tarkin |
