I keep getting this error. I've just installed the latest BOINC pkg, the PC <2447802> is connected as localhost and attached to 1 SETI@home project. Any ideas what is wrong???? |

Microsoft KB article - http://support.microsoft.com/?id=156484 talks about this error. It just says that a service starting a console procress does not know when the process ends premuturely. It states one way to find premature ended console processes is to issue a GetExitCode command. This command will then return error 128 (no child process found) if the process is not running. So it looks like BOINC has detected that the process is not running, but does not know why. I take it you installed BOINC as a service? |

Microsoft KB article - http://support.microsoft.com/?id=156484 talks about this error. I booted the PC and BOINC starts automatically but I don't see it listed in the services window. Should I? As BOINC?? I guess I will have to wait until tomorrow since all my server requests are being refused now, because I've exceeded my daily work quota of 37. |

If you never installed BOINC as a service, then no, you shouldn't see it in Services.msc Did you install anything else lately? Windows Update? Were you using graphics at that moment? Did you pause any result while using graphics? |

If you never installed BOINC as a service, then no, you shouldn't see it in Services.msc Nope. Only thing I can think of is, I'm pretty sure that I didn't reboot after installing BOINC. That might be all it needed. I noticed that it put up a screen saver (of course it's idle since it has no work yet) which I did not see before. Let's see what happens when it gets some real work to do. Thanks for your help. FiSH |

If you never installed BOINC as a service, then no, you shouldn't see it in Services.msc I'm still getting the "no child processes to wait for" error. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling BOINC. Should it be installed as a service?? If so, how is that done? Thanks, FiSH |

If you want to install BOINC as a service, that's an option in the BOINC installer. Look here to see which screen it's on. But I sent off this error to the developers email list, to find some people to try to reproduce it. I couldn't. Maybe that someone out there has more luck. Someone over on the Einstein project has exactly the same problem, and since I couldn't help him either, yet two with the exact same error in one week is a bit too much for me, I look elsewhere for help. It may well be a bug in Boinc 5.4.9 |

FiSH, something came up to try: Make sure you install the latest DirectX 9.0c updates. Reboot after that and return to crunching. See what that does. You can get it through Windows Update. |

Thank you. I can't wait. :) Looks like it's working now. I guess it was the old version of DirectX. Thanks again. FiSH |
