I was just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction? I was watching COSMOS last night and remembered that SETI had a protocol in case of actually finding a signal, how it would be announced, who would announce it, and who would get the credit. I don't remember if SETI had a protocol for responding to any found signals, and I can't find the page with the SETI information on it. Anyone remember where this is??? Thanks in advance for the reply... |

Upon discovery and confirmation of signals produced by extraterrestrial intelligence, SETI@home will make an announcement in the form of an IAU (International Astronomical Union) telegram. This is a standard way of informing the astronomical community of important discoveries. The telegram contains all of the important information <snip> Telegrams...how quaint! |

How are they going to send "I found ET -Exclamation- -stop-" now? I hear there's this new fangled thing called the "Internet," but I bet it's just a fad and won't catch on. |

Here is a web page on how IAU telegrams work: http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/cfa/ps/cbat.html You need a second life? Seconlife.com |
