Due to the very temporary nature of system disks on my cruncher nodes, option "return results immediately" is extremely valuable for me. Otherwise, I lose dozens of solved workunits when system disk is reimaged.

Waiting for Linux builds now :)

How do I install this version. Can I just copy the two files that comes with the download over my optimized Crunck3r 5.2.13 and it will work or do I have to first install 5.4.9 downloaded from here and then copy the two files.

Second question should I run a benchmark test after i have copied the two files like I should do when I installes optimized client 5.2.13.

Remove your present Boinc installation from windows remove/install programs. You should not lose any data. Install Boinc 4.4.9. When it is working then stop boinc and copy the 2 files into the Boinc folder. Restart and enjoy.

@Crunch3r: OT but if you go to your site via the Account Data for Crunch3r you get an 'Update your bookmarks' message and re-directed to the proper site. Might be worth updating the link on your profile?

NO, stop boinc. copy your boinc folder first, just in case for backup. then install 5.4.9 over the top of the old. add the 2 files. presto! it will run benchmarks first before continuing your Wu's already in cache.

It worked for me like SkippyD333 said, but now my Zonealarm is showing network activity all the time and it didn´t do that with new other version and it is Boinc that doing it because if I turn it off the network/internet activity stops. Is their something I can do about this seeme a bit odd that their should have to be some activity all the time.

With enhanced is there any point to using the optimized clients with seti? Also, is there no way to cet cpu affinity on a linux boinc client? I have a H/T P4 and I run 2 other projects on it, Ive heard that running 2 instances of one program is not as effecient as running 2 seperate programs.

Been a little while since I wandered over in this direction. So, if my question has been asked I apologise amd ask to be directed to the appropriate thread/Q&A!

Before SETI_Enhanced I deployed the Trux optimised BOINC client and Crunch3r's optimised 4.11 client. Since the change to Enhanced these options seem now to be limited.

I am now running the standard BOINC 5.4.9 and, I believe, Crunch3r's optimised 5.12 client. I also deploy the general app_info.xml file to allow both 5.12 and 4.11, to run during the actual change over when bith 4.18s and 5.12s were around. Now just crunching 5.12s on 4 Windoze boxes - 3 with Intel P3s (MMX, SSE) and one with old dual Xeons (MMX, SSE, SSE2).

Question:-
Does this thread lead me to believe there is both an optimised BOINC and a new Crunch3r optimised SETI client available?

If so, can I collect them both from Crunch3r's web site?
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

Crunch3r, I really like the return_results_immediately feature in your optimised 5.5.0 and am running it on almost all of my machines, but, can you also compile a MMX version? I would like to install it on my older computers.

TIA,

Hi Michael,

they are allready there ;)
Make sure you take a look at the README_APP

http://calbe.dw70.de/setiathome/boinc/pc/BOINC_5.5.0_SSE2.tar.bz2
http://calbe.dw70.de/setiathome/boinc/pc/BOINC_5.5.0_SSE.tar.bz2

Thank you for readme. Here are a few more tidbits:

Sample from SUSE 10 box:
$ ldd /tmp/boinc/boinc5.5.0
linux-gate.so.1 => (0xffffe000)
libnsl.so.1 => /lib/libnsl.so.1 (0x55579000)
libcurl.so.3 => /usr/lib/libcurl.so.3 (0x5558f000)
libssl.so.0.9.7 => /usr/lib/libssl.so.0.9.7 (0x555c1000)
libcrypto.so.0.9.7 => /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.7 (0x555f1000)
libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x556eb000)
libz.so.1 => /lib/libz.so.1 (0x556ef000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0x55703000)
libm.so.6 => /lib/tls/libm.so.6 (0x55822000)
libpthread.so.0 => /lib/tls/libpthread.so.0 (0x55848000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x55555000)

Sample from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 aka CentOS 4 box:
$ ldd /tmp/boinc/boinc5.5.0
linux-gate.so.1 => (0xffffe000)
libnsl.so.1 => /lib/libnsl.so.1 (0xf7fbc000)
libcurl.so.3 => /usr/lib/libcurl.so.3 (0xf7f8c000)
libssl.so.0.9.7 => /lib/libssl.so.0.9.7 (0x4997d000)
libcrypto.so.0.9.7 => /lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.7 (0x49736000)
libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x48df2000)
libz.so.1 => /usr/lib/libz.so.1 (0x48fa2000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0x48ca2000)
libm.so.6 => /lib/tls/libm.so.6 (0x48dcd000)
libpthread.so.0 => /lib/tls/libpthread.so.0 (0x48e02000)
libidn.so.11 => /usr/lib/libidn.so.11 (0x48f0c000)
libgssapi_krb5.so.2 => /usr/lib/libgssapi_krb5.so.2 (0x49558000)
libkrb5.so.3 => /usr/lib/libkrb5.so.3 (0x4956e000)
libcom_err.so.2 => /lib/libcom_err.so.2 (0x499c9000)
libk5crypto.so.3 => /usr/lib/libk5crypto.so.3 (0x49820000)
libresolv.so.2 => /lib/libresolv.so.2 (0x492ab000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x48c89000)

Red Hat distributes /lib/libssl.so.0.9.7a instead of /lib/libssl.so.0.9.7, so I had to create an additional soft link in /lib to get that working.

Michael

P.S. I am running 32-bit boinc and seti on the 64-bit Linux boxes. In my limited experience, 32-bit client and app were easier to get working. A big part of it is app_info.xml which is for 32-bit only.

Hi Michael,

I know about the "dependency hell" on read hat / fedora.It's a mess :(

Initialy i compiled some clients on Fedora 4 but after seeing this mess i wiped the crap of my disc and went to gentoo again, which works perfectly for me.

I would have linked the client staticly but that resulted in some issues regarding the intel compiler etc. Anyway it's to worth the hassle to take a closer look why.

Therefore i included the README_APP (like the one in the optimized apps. archives), but it's requiered to actually read it ;)
