Hi all,

I've been running seti@home with optomized clients and the calibaration client for a while now and a lot of my crunchers cant get work - is this down to this version being stopped and the enhanced taking over? If so do I need to be running enhanced and how can it be setup. Can I still use the optomized clients?

Hi Ben,
First, WinterKnight's referal to the faq will answer a lot of your questions about what the enhanced is and how it works, it does not answer all of what you are asking. First I suggest removing your app_info.xml file and allowing the system to download the proper application and start crunching. Also it is suggessted that you download and install the latest standard boinc application. This was 5.2.13 however I think there is a new 5.4 version out now. (I have been ill lately and have not had time to check things out and keep on top of things like I would like to be able to.) The reasons for this are explained in the FAQ in the new way boinc counts credits. Yes you can use optimized clients, however be aware that the standard enhanced application is already optimized. The only "optimizations" that are available in an "optimized" client are for the special instructions such as mmx, sse, sse2, sse3 etc. This will allow a small improvement in speed (I think around 20%) however you will not see the 300% improvements that an optimized 4.18 application could give. (The standard 4.18 application was not optimized whatsoever.) So it boils down to just removing the app_info.xml file and upgrading your boinc version right now and when the new versions settle down then get and install an optimized app. using a new app_info.xml file.
