Mute points are good, but I prefer 'moo points' (like a cow's opinion, they just don't matter!)

Later today I enabled the policy that you have to have a RAC over 10 in order to rate posts.

I recommend raising that to 100 just to make sure.

The point is mute and why raise the dead.

just try and minus someone won't work.

It's over a million. If any one person has that high of a RAC, I'm impressed.

Then I'd say NEZ has a lot of work to do. ;)

Did we ever find out how he got that high?

No.

@ admin: Please, could you finally get rid of the plus/minus option? It's too disruptive, and causes some of the bad stuff that goes on around here. And many people are too tempted to use it.

Well anyways until it's gone I'm gone.

[edit] On second thought f*ck it I'm gone. I'll remember you my friends. Bye. :( [/edit]

If not eliminated altogether perhaps it should be limited to only positive ratings so that some of the above problems could still be addressed. When someone posts in the 'What color is the sky?' thread and they post 'the sky is blue' and they receive multiple negative ratings because of the name attached to their post it is a bit lousy, and dishonest.

Every board I've ever gone to that has rating abilities has had the problem of rating abuse. I personally see no need for having ratings given the widespread abuse they seem to have. The argument of it allowing offensive posts to be hidden or quality posts to be highlighted holds little water for me. Too often I've seen good quality posts rated poorly while having poor quality posts rated high. To me, most sites I've seen end up using ratings more as a popularity contest as well as a way to try and silence some, regardless of the post relevance, instead of as a useful tool to legitimately weed out poor posts.

To truly explore, one must keep an open mind...

What I am suggesting is that current crunching contributors are included in the minimum RAC to post rule?

I am not suggesting they should have an increasing RAC over this minimum, but show a slowly increasing total credit.

Any thoughts as to this, and whether it is possible?

It sounds fair, but if someone really want's to log on just to minus people, than they'll just slowly increase thier RAC or credit to get around it. But yes, I think it's possible. It might have to be programmed into the system.

That sounds like a good idea to me. I think that it might have been discussed before, but how about not having a rating system at all? It might help in getting rid of some of the tension.

I totally agree. They often act like a cheering or jeering crowd egging the participants of a dispute on.

You're right, it probably has that effect as well.

Another thing is, it might not be a big deal for many people here, but for someone more sensitive or not used to usenet, seeing minus ratings on thier post can be losy.

If it is possible, I would suggest, as well, as the "minimum RAC to post" this RAC should be active. That is maintained so the "Show Active Computers over 30 Days" is also implemented
