I'll second that motion!! Perhaps when there is no one left to crunch Seti, and they have driven off all the top participants, MAYBE they will realize the error of their ways. I think perhaps a major boycott should be in order here. It is really pathetic that they have now driven away one of the people who was most directly responsable for making Seti the HUGE success that it was.

Regards, Daniel.

Is there a mirror site available where 5.12 Enhanced can still be downloaded?

Since Copyright 2006 Crunch3r is all over Crunch3r's web site it would not be proper to distribute his work elsewhere without his permission.

Someone has to start. So, I am not crunching for Seti for one week - There are other projects that treat better their volunteers.

Great job. It appears yet another participant has been run off due to childish accusations and gossip. Very good. If this keeps up, there'll be no one left but hypocrites and the Minus Posse. Of course they'll be getting all the work AND credits, but hey, it's not about the credits, is it? Oh, I forgot about one other participant:

ME!

That's right, as long as I can keep at least one credit from one jealous, goodie-two-shoes, hollier-than-thou hypocrite, I and the Crunch3r optimized software I use will be a thorn in their side. Both on the leaderboards and the forums.

And thank you Crunch3r, you da' man.

Ya know - THIS SUCKS!!!!!!!!

Crunch3r was one of the few that really contributed to this project.

And I give him my support - speaking of support -

How many of you donated to crunch3r for his work ? I know I did - twice.

He should recall all the apps that have been distributed thus far IMO.

Good job - IDGITS! you know who you are.

Hello,

It's not quite easy for me to write this, to honest to you all i'm writing this now with a tear running from my eye.

It's been a fantastic time here for quite a while, since things have changed for the bad.

That's why i'm taking the consequences and have to say god bye to you all.

Take care of yourself and keep on crunching.

Good by SETI.

FFS, I cannot believe anybody at Berzerkeley could be so stupid as to offend such a valued contributor. They really have shot themselves in the foot.

It's interesting to compare with Einstein@home. On that project one user (akosf) created excellent optimised clients. Subsequently, he has virtually become a member of staff!!

If SETI carry on in this vein p@ssing off valued contributors, then there are plenty of other projects to run.

I am very near the point of shutting down my farm as well. The only other project that interests me would be Einstien, but being as that they are almost finished, then I may as well just shut them down. I have been crunching Seti since May 28th, 1999. I switched my first machine over to BOINC on June 24th, 2004. I have donated financially to Seti. This project was a very enjoyable hobby for me for SEVEN YEARS. With the release of enhanced, it has become miserable at best. This project is no longer any fun to participate in. I have voiced my concerns about this in the past, and I could forsee a mass exodus of the projects top producers. I was flamed, and told that the top producers, including myself, were insignificant, and that those of us who care about credits should leave. All I can say is that it looks like your wish has come to fruition. The exodus has begun. I have about a week's worth of work left. I have set "no new work" on all 23 of my machines. The exodus continues...

Regards, Daniel.

I almost never post in this Number Crunching forum but do you think they'll make the changes needed to keep all of these mega crunchers from going on strike?

This makes me sad.

A person, who means so much to this project is leaving.

Yes, things are changing and weird things are happening on these boards these days. Very weird things...

Those accusations leveled against Crunch3r do not make any sense at all.
Hopefully the staff at Berkeley are actively working to resolve and correct this issue.

Hi Crunch3r.

There basically are 2 kinds of people:

Those who do things,

And those who talk.

So don't give too much weight to all the talking going on here :o)

Crunch3r you will be sorely missed. You have probably done more for increasing the production of the SETI project than any other single person (and anyway, who cares about credits - IT'S ABOUT THE SCIENCE DUMMIES, and increasing the WUs per hour helps the science - credit count be damned.

I had set a target of 100K credit (why - just an arbitrary goal for myself since I just missed 100K hours with the original SETI) and when that is hit I will take my 2 measly machines and go home (actually over to BETA / Astropulse where crunchers are both appreciated and respected).

The childish behaviour of a few has chased this member (since July 2000) out of the project - CONGATULATIONS!
!!Stupidity should be PAINFUL!!

Crunch3r - I know exactly how you feel. It has been very disappointing to see the issues with enhanced go unresolved - and even more so frustrating with the lack of concern shown by those in charge here.

I hope those who can correct the problems with enhanced will see what their lack of concern is causing - some of those who have contributed the most to SETI are now leaving!

My 2 pfennig's worth: this has to be the worst thing that has happened to SETI in a long time, even worse than mega-outages etc. I hope Crunch3R feels better about this soon, though whether he ever returns to SETI may be another matter.

Thankyou for everything you have done Crunch3R, and hopefully for that which is still to come. Mike

-I’ am pissed behave of Crunch3r's good work not getting the credit he supposed to.
Next week all my seti computers (20) are on NO NEW WORK , until he gets a APOLOGY from all people on this forum that got him pissed of and seti administrators.
-A second reason is I got 5 work units yesterday, about 45 hours work/units on my AMD Opteron 165 computer. I have got only 5/20 optimized computers. Sucks.
-Until we get back our 4 hour Crunch units!

Until we meet again................... ( SETI@home enhanced, sucks, as now)

I dont do much posting around here but could someone please try to tell me what really happened to Crunch3r, i for one is really sad of such a good fellow that really put the most of his time into effort trying to write and compile a descent well written application that most of us haven't given a dime to for the cause of SETI project..

This is truly a shame and i really need to say his deeds will not go unremembered (ofcourse with others too but they haven't quit Seti project)..

Re5pect Crunch3r ...

Be well..

Adios and thank u yet again!!

Well, i'm pissed off also.
This guy done a fantastic piece of work (him and some other guys well known here)

and what? crunching optimized workunits is cheating? Don't do this project Open-source, so!
And excuse me, but i doesn't realized that was a game, really.

Crunch3r, if you read us, i would thank you, deeply , trying to make this clients more efficients than the original ones.

there is one thing said by the seti staff on the electricity cost: "Be aware of the energy considerations associated with SETI@home and volunteer computing"
here is a quite hypocritical thought!

as my opinion ,a non optimized client is like a bad tuned-engine: stupidly wasting the power of the computer running in (and so increasing the numbers of machines to compensate...)

i really want now to stop crunching this project, as a protest.

ps: sorry i you read a bad english: i'm french...
