They don't say UFO's don't exist (because they do) they only say that the UFO's are not likely to be extraterrestrial spacecraft. |

tagging on: UFO research: Findings vs. facts (SPACE.com) -- For decades now, eyes and sky have met to witness the buzzing of our world by Unidentified Flying Objects, termed UFOs or simply flying saucers. Extraterrestrials have come a long way to purportedly share the friendly skies with us. UFOs and alien visitors are part of our culture -- a far-out phenomenon when judged against those "low life" wonders Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster. more.. |

I believe the MOD as much as I believe the DoD when it comes to the matter of UFOs. |

...they only say that the UFO's are not likely to be extraterrestrial spacecraft. Maybe we've been missing something here. If they're not being produced and piloted/guided by our governments, and not of extraterrestrial origin, than I think that leaves two other possibilities. One of them being that they are of Earth origin but from a different time. One can logically assume that one of reasons for governments wanting to keep quiet about UFOs from another time is that there is an information exchange with the... time travellers going on. Heh. The other possibility is that there is some sort of secretive organization not... well... exactly under the control of the major powers that's piloting/guiding the craft. |

I believe the MOD as much as I believe the DoD when it comes to the matter of UFOs. Right now, I'd believe the British MoD more than the Pentagon and the DoD, considering who's running the operation there. |

I believe the MOD as much as I believe the DoD when it comes to the matter of UFOs. I SEE your point. |

guys, lets test this scenario: lets say there are UFO's of alien origin, what do you expect the governments to say??? "..Ah, we found out that there are aliens visiting us, and they been doing it for a long time. We have absolutely no idea why and what they do, but we know they have superior technology... so you folks just sit back and relax, while we keep an eye on them..." Yeah sure, that will be the day! how safe will you feel after such an anouncement? what demands will you have from your government? What scientists forget to but into the equation ( and are practicaly not very good at...) is politics... |

IF they are here and IF they are not earth based...then what about applying the concept of "robotic" craft containing advanced Artificial Intelligence machinery that is here to observe and report back to "momma". This could account for the seemingly incredible reports of massive G force turns and extreme acceleration etc.... if it isnt alive then G forces are no worry at all |

It's highly probable that the US Air Force have craft, probably pilotless, that are decades ahead of what the public is aware of, or indeed of what is used in commercial/private aviation, both it terms of propulsion and design. These could account for many sightings of actual UFO's, excluding those attributable to atmospheric/supposed paranormal effects etc. As for us being vistited at this moment in our history by exterrestrials, it is highly improbable. With the amount of nutters that abound on our planet, extraterrestrials would be highly advised in keeping their advanced technologies to themselves. End of rant! *** Those who know, don't speak, those who speak, don't know *** |

Why don't you read the study itself, rather than rely on the BBC reporter? UK Ministry of Defence Study on UFOs and you may want to read a review (lengthy one) PS: When you read such a study, you have to put it in context, because it's meant to convey different messages to different people. Much like the "Condon Report" on UFOs in US in 1969. How-To: Join Distributed Computing projects that benefit humanity |

Nick Pope used to work at the MoD in the UFO "debunking" department. But after investigating a major UFO incident in 1989-1990 over Belgium involving over 1000 military personnel, and 3 confirmed radar tracks, he became a believer and soon wrote the book "Open Skies, Closed Minds". Cynics might say he only did it for the money. Maybe. But to this day he is a believer, and gives talks on the very subject he used to poor nothing but derision on. 95% of UFOs have simple explanations; what intrigues the investigators is the remaining 5%. Only a blinkered idiot would think that not only are we alone in the universe, but that even if there is life anywhere else, it must be at most harmless bacteria living on mossy rocks. PS: I find the idea that most of these UFOs are just secret military projects hilarious. Compare the Stealth Bomber and its shape, technology (standard aerofoil wing design, landing and takeoff, etc), with those things caught on tape flying about Area 51, as well as other well documented cases (peruse the images in www.ufoevidence.org). It took them 50+ years to unveil a plane that needs to be repainted after it rains! Maybe when they show off the world's first anti-gravity driven ship, I'll take them seriously. For a start, most UFOs by their nature do not have any identifying lights, emblems which is CLEAR VIOLATION of established international aviation law. If they are military then why bother having any laws at all if a certain section of society is exempt from following said laws? Furthermore, these UFOs frequently violate all international airspace, seemingly with impunity, which again surely violates many an international treaty. To conclude: the idea that the military - of whatever nation - is to blame for all these UFOs is MORE ridiculous than the notion that this planet is being visited by aliens from other planets, galaxies or dimensions utilizing technology we can barely understand. There are two possibilities: either we are alone in the Universe, or we are not. Both are equally terrifying. - Arthur. C. Clarke. |

A classic example of a "debunker" turned to "believer" is of the late J. Allen Hynek, past Chairman of the Astronomy Department of Northwestern University, who served as the scientific consultant to US Air Force "official" UFO investigation Project "Blue Book" during 1948-1969 (when it was terminated). Later he established the CUFOS (Center for UFO Studies) "for those who wish to see positive scientific action taken to end a quarter of a century of misrepresentation and buffoonery". All this happened before many of us were born yet after so many years there's been minimal progress.
