Message 318238 - Posted: 27 May 2006, 3:07:35 UTC - in response to Message 318143.

Both AMD machines work great. One is my laptop I have with me on the road and the other is a server running Windows 2000. No other problems or issues at all. Not doing any overclocking.

Which one is this one?

problem is your still using an optimized 4.45 client to try to crunch the 5.12+ work units. this won't work.

What's wrong?

The v4.45 BOINC client won't claim the correct amount of credit, but that shouldn't make any difference to the processing. The above indicates that Peter has the current Enhanced app. While it's recommended that a more recent version of BOINC be used, quite a few users are still running earlier ones without errors.

Many thanks for the advice. Being a total duffer I had not realised I was running an old version. Now downloaded the latest and seeing what happens.

My admiration of true genius is undimmed!

Yes!!!!

42 hrs 4 min 01 sec to completion.

Been noticing a swing in time for completion. Just noticed that file and the length of time for completion. I wonder if SETI is throwing in some extra long files to crunch.

Thank I might try and download the lastest version and see if that helps.

This is the web address to provide the explanation of that file, I do believe.

How about this for a list of computation errors?

I have been receiving numerous "Unrecoverable errors" after upgrading to the standard SETI enhanced (NOT an optimized version). I manually upgraded the BOINC client to 5.4.9 and still get errors. The error that I keep receiving is an Access Violation in the worker thread. My computer is NOT the only computer for that workunit that had the unrecoverable error on this workunit. Several computers had failed on that workunit.

There's nothing in the Messages tab for a couple hours before the error.

5/28/2006 9:54:25 AM|SETI@home|Unrecoverable error for result 30au99ab.18587.6898.842330.3.44_0 ( - exit code -1073741819 (0xc0000005))

This has happened to me on multiple work units, but it only happens on one of my computers -- that computer has hyperthreading turned on.

As an example of the "read" see

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=332045423

or for a slightly different "write" access violation see

I got a stuck Task (enhanced) today. It ran for over 7 hours until i saw that there was only 0,003% done. I then restarted BOINC-Service but the wu just restarted without going over 0,003%. The Grafics Windows shows all Infos except the Graphs. The app uses 100% of CPU but no processing is done. As i write this i will abort this wu.
Edit: After posting and aborting i got the same problem with other wus. I listed them below too. I also made two screenshots: short after start and some later

The Tasks i aborted:
14ja99aa.26346.1664.328402.3.149_3
14ja99aa.26346.1664.328402.3.151_0
14ja99aa.26346.1664.328402.3.141_0
14ja99aa.26346.1664.328402.3.132_1
14ja99aa.26346.1664.328402.3.134_1
14ja99aa.26346.1664.328402.3.133_2
14ja99aa.26346.1664.328402.3.152_2

These Tasks are using setiathome_enhanced version 515 with BOINC-Client 5.4.9 (Service Install) on WindowsXP SP2 (german)

I must say that I am beginning to get frustrated. I have had a 3rd wu freeze up today on two different machines. This last one is froze at 93%. It shows 11 hrs of time with 1 hr+ to go. I just saw it. I have no idea how long this has been like this. None of my computers are overclocked and all are running the new seti enhanced. I see that I am not alone in this problem. Is Berkley working on correcting this error?

Seti Enhanced crashed again. This time it put up a popup box that says "Runtime error! Program ...athome.berkeley.edu\\setiathome_5.15_windows_intelx86.exe This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

This time the only error message in the "Messages tab" was this:

Is this a bad workunit? This is not right. I am volounteering my computers for this project. I hope to provide good information. I can only do this if I am sent good units to work with. Does Berkley not scan these units for problems before they send them to us to crunch?
Thanks for letting me vent.

Strikes me that we are getting some bad work units sent out and too many of us are wasting the planet's resources proving it. As far as I know, everything is now bang up to date but computational errors and the like are wasting my time.

The most recent problem was:

Result ID 333564259
Work unit ID 80001188

The only thought I have at present is could there be some clash with Norton software?

It seems that a lot of Workunits created at May 26 were corrupted. Hopefully there is no problem with the client but with WU-Generation. Because all tasks generated on other days than May 26 are working.

I have no Norton-Software Installed and there are no known Problems with my AntiVirus-Scanner.
