Thank you for the answer, but i still am curious as to what the people at BOINC are doing about all these units full of errors being sent out. |

Thank you for the answer, but i still am curious as to what the people at BOINC are doing about all these units full of errors being sent out. Well, that's a good question! :-) IIRC, the 5.4.x CC polls the science apps more frequently than the earlier versions did, which I am assuming was to help reduce the occurance of the lost heartbeat issue. As far as "hard" errors and crashes from the science app itself goes, I would expect that a new version is in the works to address those, although I haven't seen one put up for testing on the Beta Project yet. This seems to be a widespread problem. I have, until now, crunched happily away on SETI Boinc 5.4.9 on a 2.16 GHz Centrino Duo with 2GBytes of RAM, so availability of computer power should not be a problem. So far I have had 7 computation errors over the last few days, of which six are from 27mr99aa.15051.2994.742326.3.xx_x created on 27 May 2006 and one is from 03mr99ab.21236,1090.367328.xx_x. I have also noticed that I was not the only one for which the same work units failed with 'computation errors'. This surely means that it is a program problem rather than a machine problem as the units have failed on a range of systems. |

I'm working on it, but I can't fix the problem without understanding what the problem is. The answer to that isn't all that obvious. Thank you for the answer, but i still am curious as to what the people at BOINC are doing about all these units full of errors being sent out. @SETIEric@qoto.org (Mastodon) ![]() |

Copy and post the last 20 to 30 messages from Boinc Manager's Messages tab here please. This was my computation error. Seems very similar. There were no users active when it happened. Any ideas? I just installed the latest version of Bionic 3 days ago. The previous version I tried last year would not run at all. I ran Seti@classic for years with 3K+ work units completed. Never had any errors other than a few corrupted downloads and transmissions. Is that what this is? I have read about the trouble with the main server lately. Is it a regular thing with Bionic? This was only my 4th workunit. Running what I think is a stable win xp machine with a 2400 Athlon, 1GB ram. Case 75 and CPU about 105 degees fahrenheit. I'm working on it, but I can't fix the problem without understanding what the problem is. The answer to that isn't all that obvious. Eric, I ran into another bum WU today. I aborted it (and another one accidentally). The bum WU is 80483823 What shows up there isn't indicative of the true run time on my computer. It claims I aborted in just a few seconds, but really it had been running for about 3 hours when I noticed it. Progress was at 0.01%. I then stopped BOINC and started it up again to see if someone's suggestion to do that would help. I let it run for about 25 seconds with no change of progress. To top all of this off, it was an early deadline, so that unit threw me into EDF mode. As such, I have also decided that I am setting my computer to no new work for S@H until the issue can be resolved. I will run through the units that I have left and then shift to Einstein and adopt a "wait and see" about S@H. Brian ![]() |

THIS IS THE MAJOR PROBLEM ./setiathome-5.12.i686-pc-linux-gnu: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.3' not found (required by ./setiathome-5.12.i686-pc-linux-gnu) this generate unrecoverable errors in results and drop's workunits project says " you need to upgrade your linux distro " because they are stupid coders i don't need to upgrade! if the problem with old distros is not solved i cancel setiathome project and stop wasting my time and electricity to feed stupid coders whe are not aplha testers! this project is more like coders project no science anymore! |

THIS IS THE MAJOR PROBLEM Hi Voland, it's not that easy, I'm afraid. You'll have to compile the seti app with gcc3.3 to get a version that runs on your computer. Since gcc3.3 (and it's glibc) isn't availble by default with newer distro's, a gcc3.3 version of seti would cause even more problems. I'd suggest you install gcc3.4 to fix this issue. Regards Hans |

Hi Voland, Shall I compile static one for you so that the version of glibc doesn't matter? regards, -Tetsuji Luckiest in the world. WMD = Weapon of Mass Distraction. Click this table. ![]() |
