EDIT: guess what, the stuck result posted by Andy just before my post is also crunched by a computer with 2 CPUs

Looks like it's a problem related to HyperThreading.

I’ve just noticed my G4 Mac (OS 10.3.9) has started to trash WUs in quantity, all like this one, marked “Client error” and “Computing”:

<core_client_version>5.2.13</core_client_version>
<message>process exited with code 13 (0xd)
</message>
<stderr_txt>
2006-05-20 21:00:32 [SETI@home] execv(../../projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/setiathome_5.13_powerpc-apple-darwin) failed: error -1
execv: Permission denied

</stderr_txt>

Apologies to all whose results will be delayed in validation as a consequence. I’ll try and pop into the shop and stop it soon, much as I like to avoid the workplace on a long weekend … :(

Message 312649 - Posted: 21 May 2006, 20:09:51 UTC

I got an exit code 3 with Seti@home 5.15.

21-05-2006 20:46:37|SETI@home|Resuming task 22fe99aa.14097.12849.329836.3.38_2 using setiathome_enhanced version 515

A window with title bar "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" popped up with this text:

"Runtime Error!

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information."

and an Ok button. When I clicked the button this was displayed on the messages tab:

Addendum: Seeing that all my v4.18 work was done, I tossed out the app_info.xml file. Shortly after BOINC restarted, I got:

I’m giving up on this mess and resetting before I hit my quota of erroneous results. It may be that my downloaded v5.13 from the “fanout” site is corrupt, although I could swear it was working for a while …

Looks like a problem with noisy Work Units. It would appear that sometimes the client isn't bailing out.

Indeed, Grant (SSSF), I just had another "hanging" workunit, fortunately I caught it earlier than the previous one.
The previous one has been deleted by now, but I remember it had a "-9 result_overflow" message, just like this one.
Restarting BOINC solved the problem (just a suspend/resume was not enough): the CPU time jumped back to a lower value, the percentage started increasing again, then the workunit ended (around 39%) and was uploaded.
After the restart, BOINC was running two Enhanced treads, before the restart it was running one Seti Enhanced (the problem WU) and one Einstein. It MAY have encountered the result_overflow while Einstein was running on the other thread, but I'm not sure.
Note that this time the problem occurred with the newest Seti Enhanced, version 5.15, so whatever the problem is, this version has not yet solved it.

I'm pretty sure 5.15 is meant to resolve the Win98 timer issue; i don't know if it addressed any other issues. But the hanging on noisy Work Units appears to be a definate problem, and it looks like it mostly occurs with with multiple logical core CPUs, and some dual core CPUs.
Not sure if it's occured on any multiple CPU systems or single logical/physical cored CPUs.

Both were at 48 hours and running.
Had to abort them.

I had this a few weeks back and it seemed like I was the only one
having the problem. I guess we got some more hanging units now too !

Not really a Computation error or is it? It ran about 30 hrs. and still had about another 50 hours to go.

wuid=79033905

It looks like I lost 3.24 cobblestones on that one.

Just had another stuck WU, this time on a Win98 single CPU PC. CPU time was very long, time and % did not increase. Since I have only remote access at the moment I could not restart Boinc, so I aborted the WU.
