Ok, I see why I couldn't see it in BOINCVIEW, those columns weren't activated. I also downloaded the BOINC Debt Viewer and copied this out of it: Yes, S@H has used more than its share of CPU time as has Climate Prediction. About 5.5 days for S@H and aobut 2 days for CPDN. What is probably happening is that when anything other than CPDN is downloaded, the system enters EDF and the short deadline project is finished as soon as possible. The best advice is to leave it alone, it will eventually meet the resource shares that you specified. BOINC WIKI |

Ok, I see why I couldn't see it in BOINCVIEW, those columns weren't activated. I also downloaded the BOINC Debt Viewer and copied this out of it: RJ: CLIMATEPRE STD: -1361.462687 LTD: -171562.378470 RSRC: 100 ------------------------------- PRJ: EINSTEIN@H STD: 0.000000 LTD: 11626.036657 RSRC: 100 ------------------------------- PRJ: LHC@HOME STD: 0.000000 LTD: 608987.933816 RSRC: 1000 ------------------------------- PRJ: SETI@HOME STD: 1361.462687 LTD: -451227.114288 RSRC: 100 ------------------------------- So BOINC thinks Seti has used way more than it's fair share of cpu time. Now, can I keep my hands off of it and let it even out? We shall see. |

What are the time stats up time, on time, and CPU efficiency in the client_state.xml. What are the deadlines, and time remaining for the CPDN results? If any result in the system will go over 90% of the time to the deadline, the system is in EDF and NWF. If based on the timestats any project would go over deadline if a fulltime result were to be added at the resource share of the next project to be asked for work, the system is in NWF, but NOT EDF. If CPDN has a low resource share compared to S@H, then this is entirely likely. S@H will get to make up the time later. The time to balance resource shares can be as large as MAX for all projects (longest run time (p)/resource fraction(p)). So in this case, with CPDN gettng a .25 resource fraction, and a runtime of probably a half a year, the balance time for resource shares would be 2 years or so. BOINC WIKI |

In BoincView, select the Project tab and scroll to the right. The short term and the long term debt are at the end of the lines.

BoincDV (boinc debt viewer) shows STD and LTD. It's good for finding out these values to see if the scheduler is doing the right thing. You need to open the "clientstate.xml" file with boincdv. Download from: http://home.austin.rr.com/skipsjunk (texas, usa) or http://www.kwanchai.net/boinc/boincdv.zip (west coast, usa) or http://algee.ath.cx/boincdv.zip (germany) |

16/04/2006 22:59:38|Einstein@Home|Requesting 12960 seconds of new work If that's how big the work unit is, then that's how much work it will download. With my system it often asks for only a few 100 seconds of work (several times it's asked for just 1 second of work), but as each Seti Work Unit is around 10,000 seconds for my systems, that's how much it downloads. There something rotten with the scheduler I say. If you expect it to honour the share settings by the hour or even the day then it will appear that way. If you keep starting & stopping work & manually updating things it will never be able to honour your settings. If you let it run for a few weeks then it will honour your settings. Grant Darwin NT |

I started using BOINCVIEW just lately, but I don't see where the debts are displayed. I am using the most current version. I looked all through it and don't see it, but there is so much information there. I am afraid I have to ask how to find the debt displays. |

Ok April 14th I alowed some work for Seti Enhanced to test 5.11 and returned 2 results taking about 4 hours each since then. My computer is on for about 16 hours a day cache set on 0.15 Well everything in cache was done exept for two s@h wu's and about a few hours ago with only 2 seti wu's to go nothing came in on the other projects so I set it to no new work and after the last one was done: 16/04/2006 22:59:38|Einstein@Home|Requesting 12960 seconds of new work Got about 32000 secs of work. Set de S@H back to alowing new work short after that. 16/04/2006 23:10:08|SETI@home|Requesting 12960 seconds of new work Got about 48000 secs of work Hate that There something rotten with the scheduler I say. Edit: all three projects set to one thirth of the time. |

[quote] Have you used BOINCVIEW or BOINCDV to look at the various debt values? If BOINC concentrates on CPDN for a while, those debts will have to be paid back. |

[quote] I have been having this problem too on computers running CPDN. They just stop getting SETI. I have been forcing downloads of SETI work by suspending CPDN and then resuming CPDN once I have the SETI work units. But I suppose that is just making it worse. I don't think I will be continuing with CPDN once these work units are done, mainly because of this behavior. |

If your preferences say "run SETI 50% of the time" and according to LTD and STD SETI has run more than 50% of the time, it will have to "pay back" CPDN and/or Einstein. That can happen if SETI gets close to deadline and BOINC goes into Earliest-Deadline-First to finish on-time. That's the long answer. The short answer: if you leave it alone, it will meet your resources -- it just won't do it every single day if you run more than one project and a large cache. You may have to average over a month to actually "see" that it's doing work evenly. |

The debt values are contained in the client_state.xml file and can be editted to zero, but you have to make sure you get them all, preferably backing up first. Or find an add-on progran called BoincDV, this has a debt reset button. It should be available from one of the following sites, but I've not tried for ages. Download from: http://home.austin.rr.com/skipsjunk (texas, usa) or http://www.kwanchai.net/boinc/boincdv.zip (west coast, usa) or http://algee.ath.cx/boincdv.zip (germany) |

My P3 would do the same thing with CPDN. It worked almost entirely on CPDN because the units are so large and it entered EDF to meet the deadline. If you stop and start BOINC, it will say in the messages if it is doing this. What kind of PC is it? Fear will keep the local systems in line. Fear of this battle station. - Grand Moff Tarkin |

Hello I currently run seti@home, Einstein@home and climateprediction. I recently noticed that climateprediction is the only program running. I have not receved any WU from seti or einstein. I have hit the "update" button several times and still no work units are being downloaded. I also tried to "reset the project" that also has not worked. Also tried shutting down and re-starting. Thanks for the help... I am still wondering if something else is wrong. Climateprediction is the only one running and is crunching the below numbers One WU states that I am 86.21 % done with a deadline of 11/12/06... It also downloaded another WU that states I am 8.06% done with a deadline of 3/9/07. I still would like to run seti as it was set to run 50% of the time and the other two splitting the remaining 50%. I have not, to my knowledge changed any settings or anything that would cause me to not run seti or einstein. any other suggestions....I am using version 5.2.9 if that means anything Thanks |

I have hit the "update" button several times and still no work units are being downloaded. I also tried to "reset the project" that also has not worked. Also tried shutting down and re-starting. BOINC scheduling works on a system of Debts, Short Term (STD) and Long Term (LTD). STD decides which project is to be processed next, LTD decides which project to download. If the scheduler has decided that it has to crunch CPDN only it could be because it has to to complete before the deadline, or because the other projects have had more than share of the cpu time and it is now working off the owed debts. More info can be found in the Wiki, link in sig, also see Earliest Deadline First (EDF). |
