far as human eye could see, Saw the Vision of the world, and all the wonder that would be; Alfred Tennyson 1809-1892 I have been working on computers since 1969 (IBM 1410) and a SETI classic user for just over 5 years now; I have completed over 12300+ classicWU’s and my “rank†is 15900 out of 5100000 users. I have been using BOINC/SETI since it went public, (at lease when it was “upâ€). I have not gotten any “credits†since 2-Aug. That having been said: I am excited to be working as a “cruncher volunteerâ€, (4 small home p.c.’s), with BOINC/SETI as the “team†works through the “scaling bottlenecks†encountered during this rollout. As I see it … it is not enough that BOINC succeeds but that BOINC succeeds on a massive scale … so that the application managers of the future knows what and where the bottlenecks are and how to deal with them … we are now part and parcel of this discovery process. BOINC will be the computing paradigm of the future - and if I were IBM et.al. I would be worried. BOINC, Son of BOINC (SOB? BOINC 2gen?), Grandson of BOINC (GOB? BOINC 3gen?) should have the sophistication AND stability to run corporate data centers functions, research, design, modeling, etc. … all on the office p.c.’s. It may not happen … but look into the future and allow for the inevitable paradigm shift that BOINC will create … indeed is creating! |
